William Cooper

William Harris Cooper William Harris Cooper, age 80, of Chestertown, MD, died Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at University of Maryland Hospital Center in Baltimore, MD. He was the son of the late William Norman and Margaret Harris Cooper and is survived by his wife of 58 years, Priscilla Cornwall Cooper. Three children survive him: Deborah Cooper Williams, and her husband, Mike, of Chestertown, MD, Eugenia Cooper Wootton and her husband, Michael, of Still Pond, MD and William Cornwall Cooper and his wife, Marci, of Chestertown, MD. His sister-in-law Elizabeth Cornwall of Hingham, MA and six grandchildren also survive. Born in Easton, Maryland, from a family with deep roots in Kent County, MD, he attended school in Chestertown and graduated from Chestertown High School in 1944. In scouting, earned the level of Eagle Scout. He attended Washington College, took a year to serve in the U.S. Army immediately after World War II, and graduated from Washington College in the class of 1949. He attended the Business School at Cornell University in 1950 as a graduate student. It was here that he met his wife, Priscilla. After college, he returned to Chestertown to start a business career with his father, forming W. N. Cooper and Son, Inc., a John Deere farm equipment dealership. He later moved the company in Chestertown from High Street to Morgnec Road. He and his son expanded their farm equipment dealership operations to Cecilton, MD and Glascow, DE. In 1987 he retired from his business. Mr. Cooper was a member and past Vestryman of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Chestertown and was a member and past board member of Chester River Yacht and Country Club in Chestertown, MD. He was a past board member of Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospital. He was an avid golfer and hunter. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2008 at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Chestertown, MD. Rev. Dan Gross will officiate. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, PO Box 875, Chestertown, MD, Chester River Hospital Center, 100 Brown Street, Chestertown, MD or Washington College, Chestertown, MD.
