Vera Ann Williams

Vera Ann Williams of Queenstown, MD, formerly of Chestertown, died on October 31 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Born on January 18, 1933, in Kent County, MD, she grew up in Chestertown the daughter of the late George William Townsend and Addie Frances Fithian. She would graduate from Nursing School in Washington, DC, where she was a registered nurse working at George Washington Hospital. She married her husband and moved to North Carolina, where she worked for the Baptist Hospital in the operating room. In the early 1970s, she returned to Chestertown where she continued to work in nursing, providing private duty nursing care. In 1974, she married George S. Williams, to whom she was married for 37 years. Later, she worked for Heron Point, from which she retired in 1994. Ann enjoyed traveling, especially supporting family events throughout the years, as well as the time spent with her family and grandchildren. Her pastimes included dancing, shuffleboard, chrocheting, knitting, gardening and collecting owls. As a child, Ann attended the First United Methodist Church in Chestertown and, after moving to Wye Mills later in life, regularly attended church services in Easton. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Jordan and her husband, Richard; her step-children: Beverly Ziglar of Highpoint, NC, Donald Jordan of King, NC, Hazel Speight and her husband, Danny, of Albermarle, NC, Vickie Allgood and her husband, David, of Yadkinville, NC, Betty Yoder and her husband, Rudy, of Dover, DE, RuthAnn Cathell-Tribett of Dover, DE, and Georgia Sandra Leonard of Chestertown, MD; granddaughter, Erica Renee Tomlinson; a grandson, Gregory Paul Merrill; 28 step-grandchildren; 46 step great-grandchildren; 22 step great-great grandchildren; a sister in-law, Joan Minster-Townsend of Church Hill, MD and her children: Alvin, Jr., Patricia, Colleen, Gregory, Pamsue and their children; and many other loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, George S. Williams in 2013. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, November 7 at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Centreville, MD. .A graveside service will be held at tripp at Chesterfield Cemetery, Centreville, MD.
