Thomas E. Cannon

Thomas “Tom Cat” Emory Cannon of Chestertown, Maryland died on August 1, 2006 at Chester River Manor. He was 82. Born in Ingleside, Maryland on May 10, 1924 he was the son of the late Emory and Elsie Robinson Cannon. Mr. Cannon worked as a Farmer on the Bramble Farm for his entire Agricultural Career. Mr. Cannon was married to Gertrude “Gertie” Barbara Cannon on September 23, 1975 they lived on the farm that Mr. Cannon cared for. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, crabbing and living on the farm. In addition to his wife he is survived by three daughters: Marie and James Crossan of Landenberg, Pennsylvania, Rebecca “Dottie” and John Layton of Felton, Delaware and Linda Testa of Chestertown, Maryland, a son: Darryl Cannon of Dover, Delaware, two brothers: Lee Cannon and Franklin Cannon, both of Warrington, Georgia, one sister: Elsie and Ronald Frosye of Summerville, North Carolina, three stepchildren: Edith and Timmy Smith of Ingleside, Maryland, Shirley and John Bussells of Northern Neck, Virginia and Charles Passwater of Greenwood, Delaware. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Wanda Loughrey of Wilmington, Delaware, Trina and Kevin McCloskey of Felton, Delaware and John and Maryanne Layton, Jr. of Felton, Delaware; seven step grandchildren: James Thompson and William Thompson, both of Church Hill, Maryland, Melissa Hines of Rock Hall, Maryland, Michael Thompson of Denton, Maryland, Johnny Hollingsworth of Cordova, Maryland, Robert Carpenter of Delaware and Ralph Carpenter of Florida and nine great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Mr. Cannon was predeceased by one sister: Peggy Summers, three step children: William Passwater, Danny Thompson and Robert Thompson and one grandchild: Michael Layton. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, Maryland where relatives and friends may call on Friday August 4, 2006 between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery.
