Thomas L. Price, SGM, U.S. ARMY Stevensville: Thomas L. Price, SGM, U.S. ARMY died on June 11, 2015, he was 46. Sergeant Major Thomas Lee Price was born and raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He enlisted in the United States Army, August 25, 1987. After completion of Basic Training, Fort Jackson, South Carolina, he attended Advanced Individual Training at Fort Eustis, Virginia, where he was trained as a 67 T Blackhawk Crew Chief. His first assignment was BRAVO Company, 2/9 Aviation in Fort Lewis, Washington. Performing duties as a Blackhawk Crew Chief, he supported numerous training events and exercises. On June 29, 1990, SGM Price was reassigned to CHARLIE Company, 501st Aviation in Camp Carroll, Korea. His flight duties included Crew Chief and Phase Maintenance Supervisor. SGM Price, then Specialist Price, received an Honorable Discharge from the Army on August 22, 1991 after serving four years. He returned to active duty on October 29, 1992 earning assignment to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), Fort Campbell, Kentucky. After Green Platoon and during his assignment to CHARLIE Company 1/160 SGM Price served as a Fully Mission Qualified Direct Action Penetrator and Assault Crew Chief, culminating his six year Nightstalker career as a Section Sergeant. In 2000, SGM Price was recruited and assessed for a unique operational assignment in the Military District of Washington. Once selected and trained he was assigned to the Maintenance Detachment in BRAVO Troop. SGM Price successfully completed tours as Crew Chief, Technical Inspector, Maintenance Noncommissioned Officer in Charge, Detachment Sergeant Major, Troop Operations Sergeant Major, and finally the BRAVO Troop Sergeant Major. Throughout his assignment, SGM Price has deployed to multiple locations within the AFRICOM, CENTCOM, EUCOM, NORTHCOM, and SOUTHCOM areas of responsibility. Some of SGM Price’s military schools and training include: Primary Leadership Development Course, Air Assault Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer’s Course, Basic Airborne Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer’s Course, United States Army Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape Course, Joint Military Freefall Basic Course ant the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy along with numerous civilian aircraft maintenance courses. Sergeant Major Price’s medals and decorations include: Legion of Merit , Bronze Star (1 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal (1 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Valorous Unit Award (1 OLC), Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Good Conduct Medal (8th Award), National Defense Service Medal (1 BSS), Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/2 CS, Iraq Campaign Medal w/2 CS, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Military Free Fall Parachutist Badge, Master Aviation Badge, Basic Parachutist Badge and Air Assault Badge. Thomas, affectionately known to all as Tommy was a loving son, husband and father. In his spare time, he enjoyed boating and coaching baseball and football. He loved fishing and parachuting out of airplanes and most of all, spending time with his boys. Tommy married the former Terri Gates, his wife of fourteen years. They reside in Stevensville with their two children Thomas David ”Tommy” and Tyler Lee “Tylerbug”. Tommy is also survived his parents David L. and Betty Price, one sister, Heather Price Handzo (Eric), niece, Paige Handzo and nephew, Mason Handzo, one uncle, Bubby Brandow (Vivian), two aunts, Elizabeth Stinton and Jeannette Herrmann (Mark) and his extended military family. Services will be held on Friday, June 19 at 11 AM at Easton Church of God, where friends may call on Thursday, June 18, from 5 -8 PM. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park with full military honors.
