Thomas Knox

Thomas “Tom” Knox of Centreville, MD died Saturday, December 4, 2004 at Corsica Hills Nursing Facility. He was 78. Born on July 6, 1926 in Easton, MD, he was the son of the late Milton B. and Daisy McQuay Knox. He attended Easton High School and graduated in the Class of 1943. Immediately after graduation he enlisted into the United States Navy and served on the Balsh, a destroyer that escorted convoys across the Atlantic during the European Conflict of WWII. Mr. Knox was honorably discharged on June 8, 1946. On February 13, 1947 he married the former, Doris E. Woolford of Centreville, MD at Calvary United Methodist Church in Queenstown, MD. They resided in Queenstown and later made their home near Centreville. Mr. Knox began his employment with Friel Lumber Company as a draftsman and lumber salesman. He later worked for E.S. Adkins and Daffin & Son as a draftsman and estimator. He enjoyed turkey shoots, waterfowl shooting and trap shooting. In 1967 he was the Maryland State Handicap Champion for trap shooting, and in 1970 the Singles & Handicap Champion for the Red Rose Shoot in Mount Airy, MD. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and was past president of the Talbot County Rod & Gun Club and the Kent County Gun Club. In addition to his wife, Doris, he is survived by one son, Thomas Vincent Knox of Worton, MD; one daughter, Ruth Gilley of Centreville, MD; four grandchildren, Alexander Todd of Kenner, LA, Kathryn Laing of Centreville, MD, Amanda Knox of Worton, MD and Thomas Gregory Knox of Worton, MD; a special sister-in-law, Beverley Peters of Easton, MD; and a special niece, Paula Hutchison of Easton, MD. One brother, Milton C. Knox and one sister, Daisy Daubach predeceased him. Funeral services will be held at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Centreville, MD on Thursday, December 9, 2004 at 11AM where friends and family may call on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 from 6-8PM. Burial will be at Chesterfield Cemetery, Centreville, MD. Memorial donations may be made to the Calvary United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 7, Queenstown, MD 21658.
