Susan Diane Becker

Susan Diane Becker, 74, of Rock Hall, MD, joined Jesus on February 12, 2024. She passed peacefully with her beloved family by her side. Born in Baltimore, MD, Sue met Lee, her husband of 55 years, on a blind date arranged by his aunt. They married in 1970 and moved to Rock Hall in 1977 where they raised their two children, Michelle and Kris. Although she referred to herself as a bookkeeper (she served as executive secretary of the United Way of Kent County and worked at Paul's Shoe Store in Chestertown), she was first and foremost a wife, mother and "Neema." She could always be found in the classroom serving cupcakes as a room mother; cheering on her kids at sporting events; or baking cookies, searching through "Neema's closet of surprises," and doing arts and crafts with her grandchildren Elysee, Marcus, Lily and Maggie. (She never got mad when the kiddos ate the spray icing when she wasn't looking.) She was the family party planner, organizing gatherings with crabs, goofy party games and scratch-off lottery tickets. If it was summertime, you'd be sure to find a giant inflatable water slide or bounce house in the backyard for the grandkids. She was the ultimate Barbie playmate, super babysitter, and hide-and-seek, jump-scare partner. She could always be counted on for special outings to McDonald's, Starbucks and Dollar Tree. In the community, she was known for running the Rock Hall Food Pantry with Lee. Every day for more than a decade, she would shop, pack or make emergency food deliveries. She was also actively involved with Toys for Tots every Christmas season. She is preceded in death by her parents Wilbur and Gladys Bigham. In addition to her husband, children and grandchildren, Sue is survived by her siblings Taryn Gray, Bonnie Bigham, and Bill Bigham and his family. A celebration of Sue's life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home in Chestertown. A visitation where friends and family may gather will be held one hour prior from 1 p.m.-2 p.m. at the funeral home. At Sue's request, an ice cream social will follow the memorial service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Compass Regional Hospice, 160 Coursevall Drive, Centreville, MD 21617.
