Stanley K. Curry

Stanley Kenneth “Stan” Curry died suddenly at his home in Easton on Tuesday, July 7, 2009. He was 81. Born in Kent County, DE on March 27, 1928 he was the son of the late Stanley Kenneth, Sr. and Helen Pauline Covey Curry. After the death of his father at a young age, Stan was raised by his mother and her second husband, the late Edward Newnam Brinsfield, Sr. Stan grew up in Queen Anne, MD and graduated from Tri-County High School in 1945. Several of his classmates there remained lifelong friends. One day after turning 18, Stan enlisted in the United States Navy and served for two years. Serving for part of this time in Hawaii, he earned an Honorable Discharge as a Seaman First Class in 1948. Stan worked in the automotive industry for over 50 years, still working full time up until fall 2008, most recently at Curtis Chevrolet in Washington, DC. Stan was a former member of both Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Department and Easton Volunteer Fire Department. In Federalsburg he served as Chief Engineer for several years. Stan was a life member of the E.E. Streets Memorial Post 5118, VFW in Easton. He was also a life member and past Post Commander of American Legion Talbot Post 70 in Easton. Stan was a founding member of the Post 70 Close Order Drill Team in the 1970s. This drill team marched in parades and in regional competition winning several awards for its outstanding close order drill. Married for 25 years to Bettejane “BJ” Rose Curry Meals, they had six children together. Stan also had one daughter from a previous marriage. Stan is survived by six children, Diane L. Gilbert and her husband Robert of El Dorado Hills, CA; Lisa Kim Curry of Salisbury; Philip S. Curry and his wife Tammy of Easton; Barry K. Curry and his wife Carolyn of Birmingham, AL; Paul L. Curry and his wife Zanna of Lodi, CA; and Stanley K. “Chip” Curry, III and his wife Kathryn of Glen Rock, PA. Stan is also survived by his brother, Edward Newnam “Ned” Brinsfield, Jr. of Leonardtown, MD, his sister, Susan M. Brinsfield of Berlin, MD along with 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, William A. Curry, and by his son, Kenneth Alan Curry. Friends may call on Sunday, July 12, 2009 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Easton.
