Standford L. Bratcher

Stanford Leroy Bratcher of Sudlersville, Maryland died on Monday November 6, 2006 in the Chester River Medical Center, Chestertown, Maryland. He was 85 years old. Mr. Bratcher was born near Pondtown, Maryland the son of the late William Edward and Julia Jeffers Bratcher. Mr. Bratcher received his formal education in the Old Dudley School located on Dudley’s Corner Road near Sudlersville, Maryland. For several years, Mr. Bratcher worked at the Powder Plant in Elkton, Maryland. He later worked for the Campbell Soup Company in Chestertown, Maryland retiring after 21years of service. Mr. Bratcher was an active member of the St. Daniels United Methodist Church in Barclay, Maryland, serving for many years on the usher board. He was also a trustee and groundskeeper of Jeffers Chapel, in Sagefield, Md. Mr. Bratcher was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan and loved watching sports on television. Mr. Bratcher also enjoyed his weekly visits to Dixon’s Furniture Auction in Crumpton, Maryland. He enjoyed playing bingo and family gatherings were very special to him. Mr. Bratcher was well known for his ability to come upon a project and become an immediate supervisor. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bratcher was preceded in death by a sister, Genevieve “Ginny” Potts and a brother, George “Timmy” Bratcher. He is survived by four daughters: Emily Winchester and her husband Russell of Sudlersville, Maryland, Julia Mae Bratcher of Easton, Maryland, Delores Bratcher of Wilmington, Delaware and Michele White and her husband Jonathan of Los Angeles, California; two sons: Stanford “Timmy” Bratcher of Centreville, Maryland and Michael Bratcher of Queenstown, Maryland; four sisters: Emily Orr of Baltimore, Maryland Marian Kennedy and Sylvia Wilmore both of Sudlersville, Maryland and Nadine Pettyjohn of Chestertown, Maryland; two brothers: Winfield Bratcher and Terrance Bratcher both of Wilmington, Delaware; nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday November 11, 2006 at 1 p.m. in the Community Baptist Church, Barclay, Maryland, where friends and family may call after 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Pondtown, Maryland.
