Sally Bishop Fronk

Sally B. Fronk, Oxford, Maryland, passed peacefully at home in the loving company of her family on July 3, 2024. Sally was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on November 24, 1941, the daughter of the late Howard George Bishop and Ruth Biscoe Bishop. After graduating from Towson High School, she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Art from Hood College, which led to a lifelong career in art education. Sally’s career began in Baltimore County Public Schools in September 1963, first, in Towson Middle School and then in Loch Raven Middle School. While her husband served in the military in Berlin, Germany, Sally directed the Berlin Brigade Art Center. When their sons entered St. Paul’s School, in Brooklandville, Maryland, Sally continued her career as an art teacher in the Lower School and eventually taught in both the Middle and Upper Schools, as well. She retired from St. Paul’s after 25 years of devoted commitment to her students. In the fall of 2006, she helped found and accepted the responsibility as the head of Hunt’s Church Preschool at Hunt’s Memorial United Methodist Church, in Riderwood, Maryland, from which she retired in May 2009 and moved to Oxford. Sally served on the boards of The Oxford Community Center and the Oxford Museum, as well as serving as docent for the Oxford Library and, with her friend, Sara Wangsness, chaired the very successful Christmas Bazaar at Holy Trinity Church-Oxford for several years. Sally was an avid golfer, playing at least twice weekly at Talbot Country Club, and a lifelong bridge player, playing at least twice each week with friends and the TAYC Bridge Group. She loved high school and college lacrosse, and especially followed Cornell’s Big Red. She was an enthusiastic supporter of the Colts, the Ravens, the Georgia Bulldogs football team and the Maryland Terrapins, and spent the last couple of months cheering for her Oriole baby Birds. Sally met the love of her life in her sophomore year at Towson High School and they continued to date through college until she and Gordon were married in December 1963. In addition to her husband, Sally is survived by her two sons GL (Laura) and Michael (Allison) and her four grandchildren: Haley, Abigail, Anna and Carter, and her “adopted” Taiwanese son, Ming Shi Du, who lived with the family through high school, college, and graduate school at Julliard. In addition, Sally is survived by her brother-in-law, Mike (Sue) and a niece and several nephews. For nearly 67 years, Sally and Gordon were inseparable and, although both worked much of their lives, shared nearly every single dinner together. She loved going on vacations with her family in the winter, skiing in the US and Europe. and, in the summer, to the ocean, most frequently at the Outer Banks. Upon learning of Sally’s having passed, many friends have described her as “full of energy,” “good ideas,” “always available to help,” “fun to be around,” “sweet,” “beautiful smile,” “infectious laugh,” “an inspiration to all,” “beautiful person inside and out,” “lovely and very smart,” and “a wonderful friend, wife, mother and grandmother.” “She will be greatly missed.” The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 13, at 10:00 A.M. at Church of the Holy Trinity-Oxford, 502 South Morris Street, Oxford MD, immediately followed by interment at the Holy Trinity Columbarium.
