Ruth G. Geddings

Ruth Gandek Geddings died on Wednesday, August 8, 2007, at her home in St. Michaels, MD. She was 90. Born October 16, 1916, in Scranton, IA, she was the daughter of the late Charles Franklin and Winifred Dora Sheldon Hayward. She was a 1938 graduate of Morningside College. In 1941, she married Charles Gandek, M.D., a general practioner in Edison, NJ. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Highland Park, NJ, where she served as a member of the choir, church treasurer for five years and on many committees. She served as President for both the Middlesex County, NJ, Medical Society Auxiliary and later the New Jersey State Medical Society Auxiliary. As office manager, she assisted her husband with his medical practice. Five years after the death of Dr. Gandek, she married Harvey Geddings, a General Motors retiree. The couple moved to Clearbrook Condominiums Retirement Community in Monroe Township, NJ. They spent winters in Pinellas Park, FL. During the summers they traveled in their motor home to Canada and the northern United States. After the death of Mr. Geddings in 1990, she continued to spend winters in Florida where she was a member of her community Women’s Activity Club, The Homeowner’s Association and the Shuffleboard Club where she served as President for five years. Her other interests included family genealogy and scrap booking for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid scrabble, bridge, and pinochle player. In 2005, she moved to Maryland where she joined the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in St. Michaels. Mrs. Geddings is survived by three daughters, Judith Bittorf and her husband, James, of St. Michels, MD, Linda McCuiston and her husband, Thomas, of Marlboro, NJ, and Susan Hicks and her husband, John, of Ocean View, DE; two sisters, Doris Currier of IA and Dora McHenry of CO; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2007, at 2:00 PM at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, St. Michaels, MD, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2007, at 1:00 PM at St. James Episcopal Church Cemetery, Nixon, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Talbot Hospice Foundation, 586 Cynwood Dr., Easton, MD 21601 or St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 304 Talbot St., St. Michaels, MD 21663.
