Roy H. Baldwin

Roy H. Baldwin, 94, of Easton, Maryland, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025. Born on January 24, 1931, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Roy led a remarkable life defined by love, dedication, and groundbreaking contributions to science and national defense. Roy was a devoted husband to his beloved wife Janet (Schmidt)- his ‘Love of His Life’! They cherished 72 years together, building a life filled with love and family. He was a proud father of four: Susan (Kevin), David (Vickie), Bruce (Lori), his predeceased dear son Mark and his son-in-law, Jerry Friedel. They have both met him in heaven. We will always carry his wisdom, kindness, and unwavering support in our hearts. He is survived by ten grandchildren: Michael Friedel, Laura Bell, Ben Baldwin, Mary Baldwin, Ted Baldwin, Victor Baldwin, Stuart Baldwin, Connor Baldwin, Katie Nahabedian, and Doug Baldwin. He is also survived by eight great grandchildren Ravi Friedel, Nolan Matney, Grant Bell, Scarlett Baldwin, Lia Baldwin, Juliet Baldwin, Isabelle Baldwin, and Jamie Nahabedian. Roy graduated from the University of Pittsburg with a B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering. A majority of Roy’s career was spent in Cumberland, Maryland where he worked as an engineer and program manager at Allegany Ballistics Laboratory. Roy’s career as a brilliant rocket scientist led him to play a pivotal role in the development of the Polaris and Trident submarine missile systems, a lasting testament to his intellect and commitment to national security. His work influenced generations of engineers and scientists, ensuring that his legacy will endure in the advancements he helped pioneer. His hobbies included a thorough grasp of medicines, investments, and even cryptocurrencies. Throughout their lives, Roy and Janet called Cumberland, Maryland, home, creating a lifetime of cherished memories while raising their family. In 2011, they moved to Easton to be closer to their daughter, Susan, who helped care for them in their later years. Roy’s legacy is one of love, innovation, and steadfast devotion to family and country. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit lives on in all who knew and loved him. A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 12 noon at Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Easton, Maryland. A celebration of life reception will follow at the Parish Hall.
