Roxanna Lane Powell

Roxanna Lane Powell of Centreville, MD died Friday, July 16, 2004 at her home. She was 88. Born on January 5, 1916 in Stevensville, MD she was the daughter of the late Howard S. and Mae Palmer Lane. She was the wife of the late Royden Nathan Powell, Jr. who predeceased her in 2000. Mrs. Powell was a graduate of Centreville High School Class of 1933 and Beacom College Class of 1935. She worked for Diamond Oil Company for six years and returned to Centreville, MD to marry Royden N. Powell, Jr. on January 18, 1941. Mrs. Powell focused her life on raising her family and as Secretary/Treasurer for Royden N. Powell, Jr. Inc., her husband’s trucking business. She was a devoted member of the Centreville United Methodist Church where she served as Church Secretary for a number of years and was active with the United Methodist Women, the Kent Island Yacht Club, KIYC Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Kent Island Heritage Society. She loved gardening, boating and knitting. Mrs. Powell is survived by two daughters, Jane Powell Coppage and her husband, Marvin B. Coppage of Centreville and Anne Lane Powell of Berlin, MD; a son, Royden Nathan Powell, III and his wife, JoAnn Anthony Powell of Centreville; a brother, H. Collison Lane of Centreville, MD and a sister, Phyllis L. Marvel of Ridgely, MD; five grandchildren, Marvin “Chip” Bowen Coppage, Jr. of Hack’s Point, MD, David Powell Coppage and his wife, Vicky Larrimore Coppage, of Centreville, Susan Coppage Roskovich of Centreville, Kerri Coppage Russell and her husband, Shane Russell of Centreville and Royden Nathan Powell, IV and his wife Robin Robinette Powell of Centreville; seven great-grandchildren, Michael Coppage and Joseph Coppage, both of Preston, Kendall Coppage, Jordan Coppage, Alex Bradley, Cheyanne Russell and Parker Roskovich all of Centreville. She was predeceased by a brother, Gordon B. Lane and a sister, Margaret L. Golt. Funeral services will be held at the Centreville United Methodist Church, Centreville at 11AM on Wednesday, July 21, 2004. Family & friends may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Centreville on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 from 6PM to 8PM. Burial will be at Chesterfield Cemetery, Centreville, MD.
