Roselma Catherine Jayne

Roselma Catherine Jayne of Rock Hall, MD, died on Monday, March 20, 2017, at her home at the age of 73. She was born on April 28, 1943, in Rock Hall, the daughter of the late Elmer Octavius Jones, Sr., and Rosalie Catherine Williams Jones. She was a graduate of Rock Hall High School, Class of 1961, and recently worked on their class reunion. On May 10, 1964, she married Ronald Edward Jayne, Sr. Mrs. Rosie spent a lifetime working with children, as a home daycare provider, school crossing guard, and cafeteria helper for Rock Hall Elementary School. She was known for her many costumes, being a scarecrow at the Rock Hall Fall Fest, and Mrs. Santa Claus at Christmas time, having treats for all, including the school children and her many friends at the DaVita Dialysis Center. As a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, she was a Sunday School Teacher and participated in the annual Bull Roast festivities. Her time was spent promoting activities in the town including being a Girl Scout Leader, being active in the Homemakers Club, and contributing to the Party on the Bay and Rock Hall 4th of July celebrations, where she was honored to serve as Grand Marshall in 2015. In addition to her husband, Ron Jayne, Sr., she is survived by their three children, Cathy Jayne of Rock Hall, Robyn Moore and husband, Randy, of Kennedyville, and Ron Jayne, Jr., and wife, Linda, of Worton; three siblings, Connie Brinkley of Rock Hall, MD, Beckie Jensen of Sudlersville, MD, and Donald Jones and wife, Laura, of Leland, NC; seven grandchildren, Stephen, Heather, Christine, Taylor, Kirsten, Megan and Samantha; and one great-grandson, Miles. She was predeceased by a brother, Elmer O. Jones, Jr., in 1995, and sister-in-law, Evelyn L. Jones, in 2011. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 11:00 am at St. John’s Catholic Church in Rock Hall. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery, following the service. Relatives and friends may call on Friday, March 24, 2017, from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home in Chestertown, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company and Ambulance Squad, P.O. Box 577, Rock Hall, MD 21661.
