Robert S. Wallace

Robert S. Wallace of Millington, MD died on Saturday, July 3, 2004 in the Chester River Hospital Center, Chestertown, MD. He was 81. Born near Millington, MD, he was the son of the late Harry and Molly L. Dixon Wallace. He was a highly decorated Sgt. during WWII serving in the 115th. Infantry, 29th. Division, United States Army. Following the war, Mr. Wallace worked for 3 years for the Delmarva Power Co. An illness forced him to leave Delmarva Power and in 1952 he went to work for Tyler Refrigeration in Clayton, DE where he retired as a production control supervisor after 26 years of service. Mr. Wallace was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Millington, Md. where he served as a trustee for many years; he served as a member of the Maryland State Democratic Central Committee. He served the town of Millington on there planning and zoning committee, as well as serving as a Justice of the Peace. He was a Life Member and Former Director of the Millington Vol. Fire Co., a Life Member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post #192 in Millington, MD, a Life Member of V.F.W Post# 652, Millington, MD; was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Post#570, Member of Post #28 Disabled American Veterans, and Member of the 29th. Division Association, Post #85. In his early years, he enjoyed coaching little league baseball. Mr. Wallace enjoyed playing cards in his weekly card club, he also enjoyed traveling and all sports. He was an avid gardener for many years and enjoyed collecting several different items. Mr. Wallace is survived by his wife of 58 and a half years, E. Louise Wallace; two sons, Wyatt K. Wallace of Perryville, MD and Stanley R. Wallace of Galena, MD; one brother, Harry Wallace of Brandon, Mississippi; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by three brothers and five sisters. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at 3pm in the Fellows Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home,P.A., 370 W. Cypress St., Millington, MD. Friends and family may call Tuesday evening from 6-9pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Asbury Cemetery, Millington, MD with Military Honors.
