Robert Paul Savoie

Robert P. “Bob” Savoie, Passed on April 14th. Loving Father of Debbie, Donna and Diane; was born in Central Falls, RI on February 27, 1936. He was the only child of the late Xavier and Marie (Beaulieu) Savoie. He attended St. Matthew’s Parochial School and graduated from Assumption High school in Worcester, MA in 1953. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in July 1953 and served for 20+ years and retired as a Master Sergeant. He was assigned to New York, Illinois (twice), Ohio, Massachusetts (twice), New Hampshire, Maryland, and Nebraska. Overseas tours were in Morocco, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii. He was a weather observer and forecaster during his entire career. After Retiring in 1974, he was employed with Informatics Inc. in Rockville, MD and in 1975 entered the Civil Service with the National Weather Service at Suitland, MD as a Computer Specialist and retired in 1994 with a total of almost 40 years of Federal Service. On May 17, 1958, he married the former Arlene Nave in Pawtucket, RI and they had three daughters Deborah Savoie (Ron Middleton) of Grasonville MD, Donna Meador (George) of Chester MD, and Diane Savoie of Columbia MD. Four grandchildren Bridgette McCoy (Byron), Clinton MO, Kelly Neall (Andrew), Church hill MD, Trevor Meador (Kaitlyn) of Frederick MD, and Natalie Meador of Chester MD and six great grandchildren, Audrey, Matthew, Owen McCoy, Addison, Caroline Neall, and Isla Meador. Step grand-children Kyle Middleton (Michelle) and Ashley Nicholls (Kai) and step great-grandchildren Kennedy, Tanner Nicholls, Nolan, and Claire Middleton. He is proceeded in death by his loving wife, Arlene Nave, of 59 years, her passing was in December 2017. In 1970 Bob began an additional career in Softball with the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) as an umpire. He umpired in Hawaii, Nebraska, and Maryland. Additionally, he was assigned to ASA tournaments in several other states. He was the ASA Chief Umpire for the Washington DC area from 1978-1990 and was selected to the ASA Chief Umpire position for the Central Atlantic Region (PA, MD, DE, VA, DC) from 1996-2006. In 2005 he was inducted into the ASA National Softball Hall of Fame. He was a member of the UMSMC Hospital with over 3000 Hours. He and his wife moved to Easton (Hyde Park) in 1997 from the Western Shore (Upper Marlboro). A visitation at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home will be held on April 22, 2025 from 2 pm - 4 pm and 6 pm - 8 pm. A funeral mass will follow the next day at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church at 11 am. Burial with military honors at Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery will follow the service.
