Robert David Dowling

Robert David Dowling of Chestertown, MD passed away August 3, 2026, at his home. He was 73. Born February 2, 1953, in Chestertown, MD to the late Leroy Herbert “Murph” and Laura May Gears Dowling. Rob graduated from Chestertown High School with the class of 1971 and soon after joined the workforce working for various jobs including a fuel truck delivery driver for Stenger Gas Co. and Paradee Oil Co. as well as Chesapeake Glass & Mirror before settling with Verizon formerly Bell Atlantic as a cable splicer until his retirement. Along the way Rob created many memories in his lifetime. He met Kathy Coleman at Betterton Beach on July 25, 1973, after a summer romance turned permanent, they married on August 17, 1974, and began their life together while raising two children Kate and Walker. Rob always remained close to home spending most of his time down home on the Dowling Farm. Along the way Rob created many great friendships throughout his hobbies, he enjoyed boating, water skiing, fishing, motorcycling, video gaming, hunting; he was best known for his jokes and stories told in the hunting trailer, and above all else he loved spending time with his grandsons as well as his family and friends. He frequently volunteered at his children’s and grandchildren’s schools over the years and was very involved in the community. He had a love for animals, especially Big Dog the Foxhound. Rob learned many valuable things through the years he had a few that were very important to him including “You can do anything if you try” (Pop), “Don’t back down when you know you are right” (Dad), and “It’s okay to be different” (Mom) he found these to be extremely valuable in various scenarios though his life. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his grandparents, Herbert Leroy and Ethel Dowling, Perry and Laura Crofoot Gears as well as one sister “Connie” Constance Slade. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathy Dowling; one son Walker Dowling of Chestertown, MD and one daughter Kate Dowling Stone of Worton, MD; Sisters “Lolly” Laura Riordan, and “Betty” Elizabeth Dowling; Grandchildren Gabriel Cypress Stone, Finneous Markham Stone and Robert Caleb Stone all of Worton, MD; nieces and nephews Kelly Anthony, Matthew Anthony, Kristan Slade and Lynden Slade.
