R. Marcell Butler

Richard Marcell Butler of Centreville, MD died at his home January 25, 2009. He was 74, born June 10, 1934 to the late Warren Butler and late Grace Demby of Grasonville, MD. Richard attended school in QAC. After leaving Kennard High School in 1953, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he continued his education. He served as an Aviation Boatswain’s IvIate 2nd Class on the Bon Homme’ Richard aircraft carrier, which took him to such places as, Mexico, Hawaii, Japan, China and the Philippines. In September 1957 he met Vera Louise Shelton and they were married on August 2, 1958. From that marriage they had 3 children. Richard was a loving and supportive husband and father. From studying the bible, Richard had developed a deep love for Jehovah and the brother's and sister's in the Chestertown congregation. He worked as a waterman until 1965, and was later employed by General Foods in Dover, Delaware until he retired in 1995. However, he never lost his love for the water, and enjoyed many wonderful days of fishing with his brothers, Warren, Joe, Bobby (deceased) and his son’s James (Jimmy) and Rodney. He enjoyed sports, especially the Ravens and the Orioles. Richard also loved his car and truck and doing crossword puzzles. He was a member of the Kennard Alumni Association. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Vera, two son’s James (Mary) of Grasonville, Md; Rodney(Donna) of Trenton, NJ; three daughter’s, Cheryl DeShields (Daniel) of Centreville, Md; Carol Robinson of Centreville, Md and Debbie Kellum of Prince Frederick, Md. Two brothers, Warren of Grasonville, Md and Joseph (Rosalee) of Burlington, NJ. One foster brother, Roy Williams (Mary Lee) of Ft. Washington, Md. Three grandson’s, Marvin Robinson (Shalonda) of Ft. Washington, Md.; Jonathan DeShields of Centreville, Md and Tyshon Brisco of Prince Frederick, Md; Two granddaughter’s Deayna Ewell of Atlanta Ga. and Unique Stokes of Prince Frederick, Md; A step granddaughter; a step grandson; three great grand daughters and one great grandson; 7 sisters-in-law and 4 brothers-in-law and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Robert of Grasonville, Md.
