Richard Dudley Wersten

Richard Dudley Wersten of Crumpton, MD, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at Shore Medical Center in Chestertown, MD. He was 81. Richard D. Wersten was born April 16, 1942, in Crumpton, the son of the late Frank Elmer Wersten and Susie Elizabeth “Starkey” Wersten. After graduating from Sudlersville High School in 1960, Richard continued to work for A & P grocery store. He eventually went on to work for Superfresh as a clerk until he retired in 1997. Richard also worked a second job for many years as a painter to make extra money. He married Frances “Carroll” Wersten in 1963, and the two were married for 60 years. Richard was a member of the Millington Moose Lodge, a Life Member of the Crumpton Vol. Fire Co., and a member of the Crumpton United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing and going to Dixon Furniture Auction to buy things he would then take them home, do some restorative work on, and take back to the auction to be re-sold. Richard loved to tinker with things, and he loved his weekly card playing with friends. He was mostly a family man and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was also willing to help anyone that would ask and never said no. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Lee Wersten. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Fances Alice Wersten of Crumpton, MD; children, Rick Wersten (Gail) of Chesapeake City, MD, Susan Wersten of Crumpton, MD, Greg Wersten (Josie) of Millington, MD; grandchildren, Allen Wersten of Baltimore, MD, Andrew Wersten and Nick Wersten of Chestertown, MD, David “DJ” Thompson of Crumpton, MD, Josh Thompson (Heidi) of Chestertown, MD, Jenna Elburn and Jeff Breezey of Millington, MD, Laurie and Josh Dixon of Millington, MD; great- grandchildren, Caleb Wersten of Chestertown, MD, Liam Wersten of Felton, DE, Jasmine Wersten of Felton, DE, Kaleb Chamberlain of Rock Hall, MD, Aubrey Thompson of Rock Hall, MD, Brycen Thompson of Chestertown, MD, Christian Thompson of Rock Hall, MD, Carter Thompson of Chestertown, MD, Mason Dixon of Millington, MD, Joel Dixon on Millington, MD, River Breezey of Millington, MD, and Jeffrey Breezey of PA; and sister, Frances Wersten Dennis (Ed) of Leesburg, FL. A visitation will be held Thursday, June 15, 2023, from Fellows Family Funeral Home, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Service will begin at 12 p.m. Interment will follow the service in Crumpton Cemetery.
