Richard Clement Vivian

Richard Vivian, 70, devoted father and friend to many, died on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at the University of Maryland Medical Center after four days of intensive care. Rich was born in Plainfield, New Jersey, to Alice Lucille Hutchings Vivian and Richard Clement Vivian. He attended Marlboro College in Vermont and later earned a degree from the Bermuda Hotel and Catering College. His professional life began in Bermuda at the Bombay Bicycle Club. Bermuda was a part of his heritage, his mother’s home, her family and their forebears. Later he traveled to Los Angeles where he was further tutored by Wolfgang Puck at Spago’s. When he first came to the Eastern Shore in 1992, Richard worked at the Inn at Perry Cabin, where he met and later married Margaret Enloe in 1996. The highlight of his life was the birth of his son, Nathaniel “Nat” Vivian, in 1999. He is remembered for the hours he walked around Easton with his infant son. The pride in his son only grew over the years. Richard then worked at 208 Talbot as a server and maitre d’ for many years, developing a reputation and following of devoted customers to whom he was equally devoted. He joined the team at Scossa Restaurant and Lounge in Easton when they opened in 2006, and has been a loyal member of the Scossa family, delighting and surprising people ever since. Everywhere he went he quietly added his special touch of welcome, humor and care. He tended to his customers and friends as well as the flowers in front of Scossa. The stories about his quick wit and unexpected quips gave glimpses into the man, the gentleman, intellect and comic. Richard is survived by his son, Nathaniel; his ex-wife and friend, Margaret Enloe; his sister, Diana Brian and her children Earl Brian Jr., Jennifer Brian, Natalie Dent, Christopher Brian and Alexandra Brian. He is also survived by his Scossa family and friends who will miss him dearly. At his friends’ request, a memorial fund to support Nathaniel’s college and life journey has been established at Shore United Bank. Contributions can be made to “Richard’s Fund for Nat,” #1266. Friends are invited to visit the family on Sunday, November 18, 2018, from 4-6PM, at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 200 S. Harrison St., Easton, MD. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 19, 2018, at 11AM, at Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, 1210 S. Washington St., Easton, MD 21601. Burial will be private at a later date in Bermuda.
