Rev.Granville David McPeake

Rev. Granville David McPeake of East New Market, Md. died on Friday, February 4, 2005. He was 77. Born October 24, 1927 in Atlanta, GA, he was the son of the late Jerry E. and Velma G. Allen McPeake. After graduating from West Jackson High School in Jackson, Tn; he attended Union University also in Jackson where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1950, he then attended New Orleans Baptist Seminary, graduating in 1955 with a Bachelor of Divinity and Masters of Divinity. Rev. McPeake then served as a Chaplain with the rank of Lt. Col. in the U.S. Army actively from 1961 to 1974. Then the Army Reserves from 1974 to 1982. After his honorable discharge from the military he attended the University of Maryland, Princess Anne and graduated in 1983 with a Masters of Education Degree. Rev. McPeake’s ministry touched many parishes to include being the interim pastor of his home church, Pleasant Plains, Jackson TN, and pastor of Huffman Baptist Church, Huffman Arkansas, Riverside Baptist Church, New Orleans La., Lynnhaven Baptist Church, Pocomoke City Md., Elders Baptist Church, Sykesville Md., and interim pastor of the First Baptist Church Easton, Md. He also served as a chaplain at Dorchester General Hospital and Memorial Hospital of Easton as well as various nursing facilities in Dorchester County. Rev. McPeake is survived by his wife, Joye Elizabeth McPeake, whom he married June 7, 1952 in Blytheville, Arkansas; two children, a son; David Hugh McPeake and his wife Patricia; a daughter; Angela Joye Whitaker; a sister, Sybyl M. Atwood; and three grandchildren, Jonathan W. Whitaker, Adam C. Whitaker and Angela E. Whitaker. He was predeceased by a brother, Jerry E. McPeake and a sister Gwendolyn McPeake. Services will be held on Tuesday February 8, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 501 Glenburn Ave., Cambridge, Md. Friends may call at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P. A. Easton, on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial with military honors at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Baptist and Family Services 7175 Columbia Gateway Drive, Suite F, Columbia, Md. 21406 in care of Robert Gerstmeyer .
