Reva M. Spurry

Reva M. Spurry of St. Michaels died at The Memorial Hospital at Easton on Friday, September 5, 2003. She was 76. Born on February 16, 1927 at home on Deepwater Point near St. Michaels, MD, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Dadds and Clifton Lewis Murray. After graduating from St. Michaels High School in 1943, she passed the civil service exam and moved to Baltimore, MD, where she was employed for a brief time. Upon returning to the Eastern Shore, she was first employed by Harrison & Jarboe Packing Company in McDaniel, MD, then by Bay Country Foods, a local canning factory located on Landing Neck Road, outside of Easton. She worked at Bay Country Foods, as an assistant to Mr. James E. Warner, for more than twenty years, until the business was sold. In 1980, Mrs. Spurry started a second career at St. Michaels Bank in the loan department, where she worked until her retirement in 1993. After retiring, Mrs. Spurry enjoyed spending time with her family. Her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her enormous joy. She was an avid reader, always looking forward to her next novel. Mrs. Spurry is survived by her five children: Christopher F. Spurry, Douglas Spurry, Steven Spurry, Lewis M. Spurry and Katherine S. Eglseder, all of St. Michaels, MD; as well as her fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Spurry was the youngest of seven children. She is survived by two brothers: Louis C. Murray of St. Michaels, MD and Carl R. Murray of Ocala, Florida; and two sisters: Nellie M. Dunn of St. Michaels, MD and Betty M. Hiller of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Frank H. Spurry, her brother, Edwin E. Murray, and sister, Sarah J. Allen. Friends may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home in Easton, Maryland on Monday, September 8, 2003 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in St. Michaels, MD on Tuesday, September 9, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Olivet Cemetery in St. Michaels, MD.
