Ret. Capt. Robert Louis Brady, Jr.

Ret. Capt. Robert Louis Brady, Jr. of Grasonville, MD died on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Safe Haven Manor in Sudlersville, MD. He was 88 years old. Born on April 2, 1922 in Brighton, MA, he was the son of the late, Robert Louis Brady, Sr. and Cecelia Hartman. He graduated from Upper Darby High School in PA, then joined the U.S. Naval Reserves where he was nominated to be a cadet at the U.S. Naval Academy. He graduated from the U. S. Naval Academy in 1945 and served on the USS Wyoming before reporting to Submarine School. Capt. Brady’s submarine service included duty in the USS Medregal and the USS Sea Owl where he qualified for command of submarines. He also served as staff of Commander, Submarine Squadron Twelve, in USS Thornback as Executive Officer, and as Commanding Officer of both USS Chopper and USS Nantahala. Throughout his Navy career, Capt. Brady and his family lived all over the world from Key West, FL to the country of Turkey. He retired in 1974 and lived in Norfolk, VA, Nags Head, NC, Gaithersburg, MD, Annapolis, MD and finally settled in Prospect Bay in Grasonville, MD. He was a member of the Prospect Bay Country Club, St. Peter’s Catholic Church, the Fleet Reserves Assoc., and the Retired Officer’s Assoc. Capt. Brady was an avid golfer, sports fan, gardener and dog lover, especially his beloved dogs, Corky and Dancer. Capt. Brady is survived by his wife, Ruth McNeal Herring Brady of Grasonville, MD; a daughter, Margaret Brady Pascarosa of Virginia Beach, VA; two sons, Patrick Hammond Brady of Wanchese, NC and John L. Brady of Arnold, MD; six grandchildren, Terra Blake Pascarosa, Carmen Paul Pascarosa, Chantel Love Brady, Sarah Lindsay Brady, Lauren Elizabeth Brady and Olivia Paige Brady; and a great-granddaughter, Aliyah Brady. He is predeceased by two sons, Robert Louis Brady III and William Michael Brady and a sister, Mary Jane Watson. Friends and family may call from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 7pm on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Fellows, Helfenebin & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., 106 Shamrock Road, Chester, MD where memorial prayers will follow at 7:00pm. Inurnment will take place at the U.S. Naval Academy at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 1850 York Road, Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093.
