Regean "Jean" Owens

Regean “Jean” Evelyn Brobst Owens of Betterton, Maryland, died of complications from pneumonia, on Sunday July 2, 2006, in Chester River Hospital Center. She was 74. Mrs. Owens was born September 21, 1931, in Sugarloaf Township, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Samuel and Verda Erwin Brobst. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Phyllis Rada. She grew up in Grasonville, Maryland, attending schools in Queens Anne’s County. She worked with her sister, Phyllis, in Peggy’s Diner, in Grasonville, where she met Donald Owens of Betterton and they were married December 16, 1950. Together they ran a grocery store in Betterton until moving to Cecilton, Maryland where she worked in Schaffer’s Restaurant in Chesapeake City, Maryland. They moved to Betterton in 1961 where she lived at the time of her death. Mrs. Owens was a member of the Chestertown Covenant Baptist Church. She loved cooking and being with her family. She was a collector of light houses and at her death, had over 140 models and pictures hanging on the wall. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Donald Owens; a daughter, Donna Jean Owens of Annapolis, Maryland; four sons: Bruce Owens of Betterton, Maryland, Paul Owens of Lynbrook, New York, Glenn Owens of Worton, Maryland, and Clifton Owens of Wean, New Jersey, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters: Shirley Seward of Easton, Maryland, Joan Hammon of St. Michael’s, Maryland, Marlene Ervin of Queenstown, Maryland and Lorraine Pope of Easton, Maryland and one brother: Wayne Brobst of Queenstown, Maryland. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2006 in Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, Maryland, where family and friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Burial will be in Still Pond Cemetery, Still Pond, Maryland. Pastor Robert Depp will officiate, assisted by Pastor Jay Anderson. Pallbearers will be Jason Owens, Joshua Owens, Christen Owens, Gina Owens, Bryan Monk and Wayne Brobst.
