Rebecca Ann Cole

Rebecca A. McCarty Cole passed away peacefully at Talbot Hospice on October 13, 2015. She was 101 years old. Born on May 17, 1914, in Federalsburg, MD, she was the daughter of the late William H. Wharton and Dora Christina Duebler Wharton. She attended Federalsburg High School Class of 1932. On March 24, 1934, she married Raymond “Buck” McCarty. They resided near Preston, MD. In 1936, they moved to Easton. Between 1960 and 1974, she and her family resided in Greenbelt, MD. Mrs. Cole worked as a seamstress out of her home primarily making drapes and slipcovers. In 1974, she and her family moved back to Easton. In 1977, Raymond, her husband of 43 years, predeceased her. On July 2, 1983, she married Wallace Cole, and he later predeceased her in 1993. Mrs. Cole was a charter member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Wesley Yater Sunday School Class, Mary Circle, Talbot Senior Center, AARP, and a volunteer at St. Mark’s Village. Mrs. Cole was an avid baker and talented artist. She enjoyed word-find puzzles, reading, traveling, and most of all, her family. Mrs. Cole is survived by two children, Janice M. Dudrow and husband H. Wade and Ronald W. McCarty and wife Mary of Easton; two step-daughters, Cheryl Adylotte and husband Randall of Baltimore and Wallie Hauser and husband Bill of TX. Mrs. Cole is also survived by four grandchildren, including Wendy Cadell and husband David, Richard Dudrow and wife Debbie, Melissa Higginbottom and husband Erik, and Sarah McCarty and fiancé Ken Kusinitz; and six great-grandchildren, including Jordan Anderson and girlfriend Taylor, Jenna Anderson and boyfriend Casey, Brooke Dudrow and fiance’ Josh Walls, Brandon Dudrow, Grant Higginbottom, Chad Higginbottom; and dear friend/caregiver, Mary Dant. In addition to her two late husbands, Mrs. Cole is predeceased by seven siblings, Ellis R. Wharton, Harvey A. Wharton, Anna L. Craft, Jennie L. Wharton, Blanche J. D. Welch, Elsie M. Towers and Doris E. Hanson. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October, 16, 2015, at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., 200 S. Harrison St. Easton, MD. Visitation will be at the funeral home will be one hour prior to her service. Burial will be at the Junior Order Cemetery in Preston, MD.
