Phillip Lee Dyott Sr.

Phillip L. “Pee Wee” Dyott, 71, died suddenly on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at Memorial Hospital in Easton, MD. Born in Easton on December 24, 1941, he was the son of the late Clarence “Joe” Dyott, Sr., and Mary Edna Mullikin Dyott. After graduating from Easton High School in 1961, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in “The Old Guard” with Honors in Arlington, VA. After his release from active duty, he returned to Easton and was employed by Easton Utilities as a lineman in the Electrical Department for a number of years. He later owned and operated Dyott Sales until his retirement. A past Chief and Life Member of 48 years with the Easton Volunteer Fire Department, he was, at the time of his death, Vice President of the Talbot County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association, an organization for which he had served as President. He also was a member of the Maryland Fire Chiefs Association. His many honors in fire service included induction into the Talbot County Fire and Rescue Fire Association Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Maryland State Fireman’s Association Hall of Fame in 2011. He was a Life Member of BPOE 1622 in Easton for 46 years and a Life Member of American Legion Post 91 in Cambridge for 42 years. A well-known local athlete since his youth, he played for Roe’s Softball Team in 1976 and 1977, winning Maryland State Championship and placing third in the nation at the Spokane National Tournament. He played first base with Roe’s and his batting average was over 400 with many home runs. In 1977, Roe’s won 51 games and lost 4. He was inducted into Maryland Modified Softball Hall of Fame in 2012. Pee Wee was known for his love of life, community, country, many friends and family. He was first married to Cynthia Maxwell, by whom there were two children, Dawn Marie Dyott and Michael Scott Dyott, who were deceased as infants. He was then married to Dorothy “Dottie” Wood Smith, by whom there were two children, Phillip Lee “PJ” Dyott, Jr., and Stephanie Dyott Parlee. Most recently, he has shared his life since 2001 with his companion, Emily Capel Meintzer. In addition to his longtime companion, Emily; his two children, Phillip L. “PJ” Dyott, Jr. and Stephanie Dyott Parlee, he is survived by a sister, Shirley Dyott Smith; his four grandchildren, Benjamin and Abby Anders, and Brandon and Cameron Parlee; and many loving nieces and nephews. Mr. Dyott was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Clarence Buck Dyott; and a sister, Alice Dyott Peters. A funeral service will be held at Easton Volunteer Fire Department, 315 Aurora Park Dr., Easton, MD 21601 on Thursday, January 3, 2013, at 11a.m. Friends may call the fire house on Wednesday, January 2 from 6-8 p.m., and also one hour prior to the service. Burial with military and fire department honors will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Easton.
