Pedro Iván Ruiz

Pedro Iván Ruiz of Chestertown, Maryland, passed away peacefully at his home on January 11, 2026, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 52 years old. Pedro was born on July 14, 1973, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, to the late David Antonio Ruiz and Nicolasa Jiménez. He grew up in Islote, a small seaside neighborhood, where he developed a lifelong love for the ocean, fishing, and boats—simple joys that filled his days with fun and deepened his bond with family. Pedro was a man guided by deep faith and love for his Creator, Jehovah. In 1990, he dedicated his life to Jehovah and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He joyfully served for 11 years as a volunteer at the World Headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Brooklyn, New York. He shared his faith zealously and was always ready to help, encourage, and show kindness to others. Just as he loved the sea, Pedro also loved the sky. His adventurous spirit led him to earn his private pilot’s license, fulfilling a lifelong dream of flying. Whether soaring through the skies, sailing across the water, or sharing happy moments with loved ones, Pedro found joy in the beauty of creation. On October 23, 2010, Pedro married the love of his life, Tina Marie Brown. Their marriage was built on love, faith, and a shared devotion to Jehovah. They treasured time spent together in spiritual activities and, in their free time, enjoyed camping, fishing, flying, and gardening side by side. Pedro worked as a Systems Administrator with Avrio Technology in Easton, Maryland, and later with Veritas Consulting Group. Much of his professional career was devoted to supporting a single client, the Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, D.C., where he played a key role in the development of wireless security equipment. Pedro will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted son and brother, loyal friend, and deeply spiritual man whose kindness, humility, and generosity touched all who knew him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Tina Ruiz; his mother, Nicolasa Jiménez of Pennsylvania; his sisters, Maybelisse Zayas of Pennsylvania and Nichol Campos of Puerto Rico; his brother, David Ruiz of Maryland; his brothers- and sister-in-law; his nephew, Melvin Eloy Zayas; and many extended family members and dear friends. Services will be held Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2020 McGinnes Road, Chestertown, MD 21620.
