Paul E. Higgins

Our dear father, Paul E. Higgins, departed this life on March 10, 2007. He suffered complications from a fall while playing with his new puppy. He was 89 years young and surrounded by the love of all his family and many friends. Dad was born on January 14, 1918 in Bluefield, WV and lived his childhood years in Keystone, WV. In 1939 he graduated from college with a degree in electrical engineering and began his career managing a radio station in Charleston, WV. In 1941 he went to work at Westinghouse and helped to build the first radar equipment used in the war. He soon met and married our Mother, the late Mazie Higgins. They were married in 1942, moved to Catonsville, MD, where Dad built his own home and raised a family of eight children. In 1970 they discovered life on the eastern shore and the family moved to Easton. Following his retirement in 1977, they bought a home in Royal Oak, then in St Michaels, where they lived out the remainder of their lives. Paul is survived by seven children and their spouses, Bill and Nancy Higgins, Marnie and Jay Webster, David and Debbie Higgins, Chrissi Higgins and husband, Estell Meeks Jr, Tricia Higgins and husband, Dave Lassalle, Susan and John Sullivan, Mark and Lori Higgins. His youngest daughter and our dear sister, Dr. Teresa Higgins Elben, departed on March 28, 2005 at age 43. He has also left behind 17 grandchildren, Brian Higgins, Tracey Kern, Jamie Reese, Ashley Decker, Ryan Webster, Kelly White, Shawn Burns, Adam and Ben Kries, Emily Miller, Connor Brown, Christopher and Jessica Renshaw, Jimmy, Casey, and Clark Higgins, and Samantha Elben. In addition Paul has two great grandchildren, Alyssa Higgins and Maddie Kern, and three very special family friends, Norma Lee Todd, Lesley Sprinkle, and Mike Elben. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Claris Ashworth and husband, Taylor, Gleness Porterfield, his dear sister-in-law, Helen Casey and husband Maurice, and all of their families. His brother, Kenneth Higgins, was killed in World War II. Paul is the son of the late, William Franklin Higgins and Ada Marjorie Blakey Higgins of Roanoke, VA. Dad’s favorite days were spent with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed vacation getaways as well as his search for the best restaurant in town. He loved family gatherings and fascinated us with his stories of days gone by. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him and welcomed by all who left before him. The viewing and service will be private. The family sincerely appreciates all of your prayers, thoughts, and well wishes.
