Paul Dennis Kappes

Paul Dennis Kappes, a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on December 15, 2024, at the age of 68. He was born on July 3, 1956, in Baltimore, MD, to Mary and John Kappes. Paul was cherished among his siblings, growing up alongside Mary E. Connors, Christine Anello, Patricia Cunningham, and Paula DeFlavis. A proud graduate of the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, Paul earned his Master of Science degree with a focus on Computer Science. He dedicated 22 years of his life to serving in the United States Navy specializing in cryptography, achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer before his retirement in 1997. After retiring from the Navy, he continued serving his country working for the Department of Defense as a computer scientist at NSA for 21 years. His military career was marked by honor and commitment, particularly during his tenure on the USS Kitty Hawk CV63. Paul married the love of his life, Dianne, on May 16, 1986. Their love story began in the early days of long-distance dating, with Dianne in Maryland while Paul was based in San Diego. Paul was a devoted husband and a proud uncle, leaving behind a legacy of love through his nieces and nephews: Christina Anello, Dominic Anello, Gregory Anello, Andrew Connors, James Hartnett, and Grant Hartnett. He is also survived by his beloved sisters and one great niece, along with six great nephews. A man of many passions, Paul found joy in cycling, running, swimming, crossword puzzles, and gardening. He was particularly proud of his accomplishment in completing the Greek Marathon, a testament to his commitment and endurance. A visitation will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024, from 10 AM to 11 AM at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service at 11 AM. Paul will be laid to rest with Military Honors at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Talbot Hospice, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, The Ulman Foundation, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Paul's memory. Paul Dennis Kappes will be deeply missed by all who knew him, remembered for his strength, integrity, kindness, and unwavering love for his family.
