Paul "Wally" Wallace Alden

Paul “Wally” Wallace Alden of Stevensville, MD passed away on December 14, 2015. He was 59. Born on April 11, 1956 in Bethesda, MD, he was the son of the late William and Ann Alden. He grew up in Silver Spring, MD and graduated from Kennedy High School. He earned his BS in English from the University of Maryland. In 1981 Wally married Lois Ann Dobson and established the Paul W. Alden Company, Inc. in Queenstown. He and Lois moved to Cloverfields in Stevensville and ran their company there until he retired in 2010. During his career he built and remodeled custom homes, and worked to preserve historic architecture in the city of Annapolis. He and his sons even participated in restoration efforts at the Blair House, the Department of the Interior, and the east wing of the White House. His passions in life were his family, friends, and serving his community in many capacities. Wally was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department in Silver Spring, Queenstown VFD and later the Kent Island VFD, where he was a Certified Dive Instructor and was captain of the KIVFD Dive Team. He also was a member of the QAC Sheriff’s Department Auxiliary for the past 3 years, where he reached the rank of Lieutenant and recently earned a Governor’s Citation for Crime Prevention. In 2007, he received an Anne Arundel County Executive Citation for his heroic actions in assisting a Secret Service Agent during a shooting at the Annapolis Mall. He loved building street rods to show and drive with his children and attended numerous car shows and events. He was a loving father and an adoring grandfather to his four grandchildren. In addition to his wife Lois Alden, Wally is survived by his daughter Jennifer Alden Saunders (Jonah) of Stevensville, MD, son Ryan Manning Alden of Columbia, MD, brother Henry “Hank” Palmer Alden (Debbie), sister Lynn Herron (Steven), sister Linda Garofalo (Ken), brother John Alden (Diane), mother-in-law Marilyn Dobson, grandchildren Evan, Maeve, Fallon and Blair, and several wonderful nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 3 pm at the Kent Island United Methodist Church in Chester, MD, where friends and family may visit beginning at 2 pm.
