Pamela Hill Lappen

Pamela Hill Lappen, a beloved wife, devoted mother, esteemed pharmacist, and cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully on April 21 st , 2024, surrounded by her family. Born in Cambridge, Maryland, Pamela was the daughter of William C. “Doc” Hill and Mettie Marie “Mom-Mom” Howard Hill. She graduated from Saints Peter & Paul High School before pursuing her higher education at St. Joseph College and the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. A classic beauty with a brilliant mind, Pamela would do her chemistry equations in ink pen and modeled on the side with her work appearing in Glamour magazine. Returning to Easton after graduation, Pamela joined her father, Doc Hill, at Hill’s Drug Store where she worked tirelessly for over three decades. She was the very first female pharmacist on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. As an innovative entrepreneur, she advanced the pharmacy business forward by being an early adopter of emerging technology that networked the stores together and established an advanced retail pharmacy point of sale computer system. Known for her kindness, expertise, and unwavering commitment to her family, patrons and employees, Pamela touched the lives of countless individuals, offering comfort, guidance and compassion to all those who crossed her path. She was also tenacious and engaged with her community, serving on the Boards of the Talbot County Chamber of Commerce and Easton Bank & Trust (a founding member), volunteering for the local United Way, serving as a member of the Eastern Shore Pharmacy Association and on the Advisory Committee to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, and active in the annual fundraisers for the Washington regional chapters of the Salvation Army and American Heart Association. In 1971, Pamela married her childhood friend and love of her life, Mark Lappen. For 52 years, they shared a beautiful life full of love, laughter and cherished memories. Together, they raised three wonderful sons, Hill, Hunter and Luke, who were the pride and joy of Pamela’s life. She adored her two granddaughters, Louisa Mae and Lola Marie, and cherished every moment spent with them, creating lasting memories that will be treasured for many years to come. Pamela loved to travel with her family. Many fond memories were made during their annual Christmas trips to The Homestead, a beautiful resort in the mountains of Virginia, especially the one for New Year’s Eve in 1999. Pamela and Mark had the pleasure of traveling the world and visiting many countries in Europe. On one particular trip to Rome, Pamela felt privileged to be in attendance for the first public audience with Pope John Paul II. Pamela is survived by her beloved husband, Mark; her sons, Hill, Hunter and Luke (Cathleen); her grandchildren, Louisa Mae and Lola Marie; her brother, Dr. W. David Hill; her sister, Mimi Hill Shannahan and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Pamela was a beautiful woman on the inside and out. She was an elegant force of nature that will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Her memory will forever be cherished by those who were touched by her grace, integrity, warmth and love. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 6th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the St. Michaels Mission Church, and mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 7th at 11:00 a.m. at Saints Peter & Paul Church in Easton. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, kindly make a donation to Pamela’s favorite charities which include Tunnel to Towers, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Shriners Hospital for Children.
