Pamela Jean Clarke Dove

Pamela Jean Clarke Dove died at home in Chester, Maryland on Sunday, May 15, 2005, after a four-year struggle with ovarian cancer. She was 74. Born Jean Clarke on February 18, 1931, she was the only child of William Joseph Clarke and Ruth Evelyn Carter of Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from St. Thomas Apostle High School in Chicago at the top of her class and joined the Sisters of St. Dominic, Congregation of the Most Holy Rosary (Sinsinawa Dominicans) in 1949, where she became Sister Pamela. She continued to use the name Pamela after leaving the order in 1973. Pamela received her BA in Mathematics from Rosary College and MA from the University of Notre Dame while teaching at Dominican secondary schools in Illinois and Wisconsin. She was always known as an outstanding teacher and was consistently an honor student, herself. In 1973, after working on a national mathematics curriculum project at the University of Southern Illinois, she moved to Baltimore to teach at Pikesville High School. Pamela married Thomas L. Dove in 1975, and the couple settled in Crownsville, Maryland. She took a position at Bowie State College and continued to teach there until her retirement in 1993. They moved to Queen''s Landing on Kent Island in 1985. She loved to travel throughout North America and Europe with her husband, but a favorite recreation was sailing. They sailed the East coast and Caribbean extensively, usually with their two children, and spent many weeks each year cruising on the Chesapeake Bay. She also enjoyed literature and art and assisted her husband in editing a Frommer''s travel guide to the Mid-Atlantic. While teaching was her profession, classical music was her passion. Pamela had a light, lovely soprano voice and sang with the Annapolis Chorale, the Singers Madrigale, the Queen Anne''s Chorale and informal choral groups on Kent Island. Pamela leaves her husband, Thomas L. Dove of the home address and two stepchildren, Jennifer Dove Carrita of Swansea, Massachusetts and Dr. Alan W. Dove of New York, NY. She also leaves grandchildren, Brittany, Brandon and Arron Carrita of Swansea, Massachusetts. A memorial service will be held on June 4 at 11am at Christ Episcopal Church, 830 Romancoke Road, Stevensville, MD. Arrangements are through Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Chester, Maryland.
