Norman J. Moore

Norman J. Moore of Easton, MD died on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at William Hill Manor, Easton. He was 82. Born March 23, 1925 in Cambridge, MD, he was the son of the late Arvie W. and Marian R. Jones Moore. He grew up in Easton and was a 1942 graduate of Easton High School. During World War II, he served as a radio operator in the U.S. Navy’s Amphibious Forces in the South Pacific, earning seven campaign ribbons and six battle stars. After the war, he earned his B.S. degree in education in 1950 from the institution now known as Salisbury University. In 1951 he earned an MA in Administration at Columbia University in New York. Additional graduate studies were done at the University of Delaware and Temple University. He ended his formal studies while serving as a doctoral student at the University of Maryland, College Park. His wife, the former Pauline Ann England, whom he married in 1952 at Rosebank Methodist Church in Calvert, MD, died April 9, 2001. He served in a variety of positions for the Cecil County Public School System, before returning home in 1968 to take a position as Superintendent of Talbot County Public Schools, retiring in 1987. During his tenure as Superintendent, he served as President of many state organizations, including the Public School Superintendent’s Association of Maryland and the Bayside Athletic Conference. He was a former member of the Easton Rotary Club, the Easton Ruritan Club, and the Talbot County Farm Bureau, and past President of the Talbot Country Club and the Historical Society of Talbot County. He was an active member of the BPO Easton Elks Lodge 1622 and E.E. Streets Memorial Post 5118 V.F.W. He served as Vice Chairman of the Talbot County Park Board which is now known as the Talbot County Golf Board. In 1988 he was named a Judge of The Orphans Court for Talbot County. During his ten year tenure he served as Chief Judge of Talbot’s Court as well as President of The Maryland Association of Orphan Court Judges. Mr. Moore is survived by his daughter, Valerie Moore Kline of Laytonsville, MD; two sisters, Ruth M. Asmussen of Trappe, MD, and Marian Lutz of Easton, MD; three granddaughters, Jennifer, Kathryn, and Rebekah, all of Laytonsville; and several nieces. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 8, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral home, P.A., Easton, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Spring Hill Cemetery, Easton, MD.
