Millard E. "Pete" Quinn

Millard Edward “Pete” Quinn passed away peacefully on July 7, 2013, with his loving wife by his side, after an illness of several months. Born at Love Point, MD, on July 8, 1921, he was the son of the late William L. Quinn and Janie Quinn. He was preceded in death by his brothers Bill and Jack, and his sisters Jane Burns and Emily Jones. He served his country in World War II for three years, as a Supply Master Sergeant in the US Army on the island of New Caledonia, in the Pacific Theatre. For a short time, he drove long distance tractor trailers to New York City. He was also a talented carpenter, helping to build the first Chesapeake Bay Bridge, and also the Kent Island Fire House, and the Grasonville VFW, both of which he was a founding charter member. Most of his life he was a waterman, clamming and oystering on the bay on his various boats, his favorite of which was the “Two Roses.” He was also a seafood sales manager for Carnabucci Seafood and United Shellfish. Later in life, he was a courier for National Health Labs. He believed the key to his 91 years was honesty and hard work, along with the love of family. Pete lived his entire life on the Eastern Shore, and met the love of his life, Rose, in 1941, marrying her six months later on the fourth of July. They settled in Grasonville and built a house there where they lived together until his recent illness, and where they raised their daughter, Roseanne. Pete loved baseball and spent many years with a traveling team of his lifelong buddies, playing competitive ball well into his thirties. Pete enjoyed driving on long trips to Florida and the Gatlinburg TN area, vacationing at the Majestic Hotel in Ocean City, keeping up with local news, watching the Orioles play baseball, and being outside, working in his yard, and on his house. He will always be remembered for his ability to tease a smile out of anyone, his love of children, his endless curiosity about people and places, his great memory for the little details of life, and his generous, loving heart. He adored his wife and daughter, and he will be terribly missed. Pete is survived by his wife of 72 years, Ros;, his daughter, Roseanne, and her husband, Alan, and his sweet dog, Buddy. He is also survived by numerous special nieces and nephews, and their children, most especially the ones who travelled with him on this journey, Rena and Roger Dye, Nicole Ransom, and Reggie Jones. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Chester, MD, where the family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Easton, MD.
