Michael P. Morse

Michael P. Morse of Easton, MD, died Wednesday, July 12, 2017. He was 60. Born October 10, 1956, in Salisbury, MD, he was the son of the late William A. “Pat” Morse and Jean L. Morse. After graduating from St. Michaels High School, Class of 1974, he attended Salisbury State College where he played collegiate soccer before transferring to University of Maryland, College Park, and graduating with a B.S. in Physical Education. Mike was a lifelong Terps and Orioles fan. He was a talented athlete in multiple sports, and competed in the inaugural Oxford Triathlon in 1980, now known as the IRONMAN Maryland in Cambridge. Mike devoted his life to his family and community. He was a lifelong advocate for youth through sports, having coached many local athletes at various levels of swimming, soccer and lacrosse. He started his career as the Talbot County Parks and Recreation Director. He then taught Physical Education at The Country School, and transferred to SS Peter & Paul as the Athletic Director and coach of men’s soccer and women’s lacrosse. He helped place numerous athletes in Division I schools, coached teams to numerous conference championships and received Coach of the Year accolades. Mike also coached many teams in community sports, including Maryland United Women’s Lacrosse, Men’s Soccer at Chesapeake College, the Mid-Delmarva Swim Team in 1977, the Miles River Yacht Club Swim Team, Talbot County YMCA Swim team, Talbot County youth soccer teams, and Talbot County youth lacrosse teams. He was the founding member and first coach of the Talbot Swim Club in 1996. He is survived by his devoted wife of 31 years, Anne Favinger Morse; two daughters, Megan Morse of Easton and Julie Morse of Chestertown, a son, Brion Morse of Queenstown, sisters Debra (John) McQuaid and Ellen Morse of Easton; a brother, David (Judy) Morse of Easton; mother-in-law, Marie Favinger, brother-in-laws, Joe (Peggy) Favinger, Pat (Debbie) Favinger, Tom (Karen) Favinger; sister-in-law, Mary Clare (Terry) Hughes, and fifteen nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, July 16 from 3-5 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 200 Harrison Street, Easton, MD, and a funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, July 17, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 1210 S. Washington Street, Easton, MD. A reception will follow the funeral liturgy on Monday, July 17, at the SS Peter and Paul High School Auditorium. In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship in Mike’s memory has been created and donations may be made to: Michael P.
