Michael Duckery

A Time To Be Born… Elbert Michael Duckery was born on February 26, 1956 in Chestertown, MD, to the late Wakefield Johnson and Gwendolyn Duckery. A Time To Die… Michael peacefully entered eternal life on April 1, 2016, at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Shirell Duckery; his brother, James Roane; and his grandmother, Ida Dutton. A Time To Get And A Time To Keep… Michael received his education from Kent County Public School Schoos and graduated from Kent County High School in 1974. During his high school career, he led the basketball team to a state championship and scored over 1,000 points in his high school tenure. Upon graduation, he attended Delaware State University on a basketball scholarship. Michael was initially employed by Campbell Soup Company in Chestertown, MD. He later began working for Getty Oil (Catalytic, Inc.) in Delaware City, DE, and remained employed there for over twenty-five years. Michael attended John Wesley United Methodist Church in Millington, MD, as a child. In recent years, he became a member of Jericho Faith Deliverance Church, Inc. in Ridgely, MD. A Time To Love… Michael married Phyllis Hutchins in 1978. Together, they loved and nurtured three daughters, CaSandra, Yvonne, and Shirell. A Time To Embrace And A Time To Speak… Michael had an unfailing love for his children and especially his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy and the apple of his eye. He loved spending time with his family, eating, watching basketball, and riding his motorcycle. He prided himself on being an “OG” (Original Guard) of the Thunderguard Motorcycle Club. A Time To Weep… Michael leaves to cherish his memory, Phyllis Duckery; two daughters, Elder CaSandra Wilson (Jeffrey) and Psalmist Yvonne Duckery; four grandsons, Jerren Rich, Zion Wilson, Cayden Wilson, and Zaiden Hyland; two sisters, Ida Brown and Elder Tawnya Johnson; four brothers, Jeffrey Roane, Joe’l Roane, Glen Johnson, and Dondi Johnson; four sister-in-laws; three brother-in-laws; two aunts; three uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his Jericho Faith Deliverance Church family. A visitation will be held Friday April 8, 2016, from 6-8 p.m. at Jericho Faith Deliverance Church, 201 Park Ave, Ridgely, MD, and Saturday, April 9, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Greensboro Pentecostal Church, 13149 Greensboro Rd, Greensboro, MD, where a service will follow at 12 p.m. Burial will be held in John Wesley Cemetery in Millington, MD, following the service.
