Michael William Carmichael

Michael William Carmichael of Queenstown passed away suddenly at his home on November 16, 2023. He was 79. Born on July 13, 1944, in Washington D.C., he was the son of the late Horice and Edna Carmichael. At the age of 5, Micheal contracted polio and spent 6 months in an iron lung. He was a poster child for the March of Dimes. Despite having a leg brace, Michael enjoyed sailing, cycling, swimming and other sports. After graduating from Suitland High School, Michael attended the University of Maryland on a lacrosse scholarship. He graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with an accounting degree and took a position with C&P Telephone of Virginia. Michael made his career in the telecommunications industry working for several companies across the United States. He eventually started ITI Services, a telecommunications consulting firm, headquartered in Texas with offices in Washington D.C., Utah and Hawaii. After selling his business, he retired and moved from Texas to Mississippi. He enjoyed traveling and visited many National Parks in his RV. Hurricane Katrina chased him north to Southern Maryland. Michael met the love of his life Judy on an Internet dating site in 2006. Shortly thereafter he moved to the Eastern Shore. He and Judy enjoyed entertaining friends in their home, particularly the Friday night merlot club. Michael toured the Delmarva peninsula, chauffeuring Judy while she served as Rotary District Governor in 2007. Eventually the effects of childhood polio caught up with him, but moving to a power wheelchair did not slow him down. He and Judy attended many artisan shows in the mid-Atlantic area where he used his sales skills to help Judy sell the silk scarves she designed. Micheal and Judy were married on October 12, 2018, at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis. They sponsored Midshipman from the navel academy for nine years. Michael was a member of the Kent Island Rotary Club, Prospect Bay Country Club, and Queenstown Moose. Michael is survived by two children with his first wife Charlotte, Bryan of Las Vegas, NV and Kathy of Huston, TX. He was proud of his granddaughter McKenzie who recently was awarded a scholarship to Old Miss. His stepson Randolph Bowes resides in San Fransico, CA. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by brothers Norman and Pete. Michael and Judy fought the boredom of the covid years by supporting artists. A celebration of Michael’s life will be held in the spring. It will be held in the sculpture garden of animals they delighted in curating at their home.
