Mary Page Richardson

Mary Louise Page Richardson died on June 10, 2008 in Easton, Maryland after a long battle with cancer. She was 80. Born is Evanston, Illinois, April 10, 1928, she retired to Clarksville in 1987 with her late beloved husband, Homer Shelley Richardson. Mary Richardson had a total of over 34 years of military and civilian service to our country, with careers in United States Navy and the Department of the Navy. Mary Page Richardson received a Bachelors of Fine Arts from Radford University (then the Women’s Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute) in 1949. After graduation she became a window designer at Woodward and Lothrop, Washington, D.C. In 1953 she was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy and graduated from the Officer Indoctrination School, Newport. She served over thirteen year’s active duty at locations such as: Norfolk, Lakehurst, Pearl Harbor and at the Chief of Naval Operations in the Pentagon. She separated from the Navy in 1966 as a Lieutenant. She then worked for the Naval Communications Command, Washington, D.C., as a Communications Specialist, for twenty years. After retirement to Clarksville, she became a volunteer docent at Prestwould Plantation. She was elected a member of the Board of Trustees of the Prestwould Foundation, and served as Secretary to the Board.Mary Richardson was a member of the St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, Clarksville. She will also be remembered as rescuing many lost or abandoned animals, and finding them homes. Mary Page Richardson was the beloved daughter of the late Margaret Louise Blessington and the late Esterly Chase Page. She is survived by her sisters Jane Page Tibbitts, Eugene, Oregon; Joyce Page Robb, Eugene, Oregon; and Virginia Page Perram, Royal Oak, Maryland. In addition she is survived by four nieces and one nephew: Julia Page Franklin, Susan Chase Hernandez, Bonny Tibbitts Gildea, all of Eugene Oregon; Teresa Lee Tibbitts Anchorage, Alaska; Gordon Chase Tibbitts, III, Berkeley, California; and also two grand nieces and four grand nephews. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Prestwould Foundation, P.O. Box 872, Clarksville,Virginia, 23927.
