Mary L. Wood

Mary LaMarr Wood of Stevensville, MD passed away on October 5, 2010 surrounded by her loving family. She was 87. Mary was born on August 16, 1923 in Baltimore, MD and was the daughter of the late, Joseph Carroll and Helen Bowersox. After attending high school in Baltimore, Mary married Thomas M. Wood on May 16, 1942. They made their home in Baltimore, MD until 1944 when Thomas was drafted into the Navy and they were based out of Mayport Naval Station in Jacksonville, FL. When Tom’s enlistment ended they returned to Baltimore until 1952 when they built their home in Pasadena, MD. In 1991, the Woods retired to Daytona Beach for three years and then returned to settle in Stevensville, MD. The most important things in life for Mary were her husband Tom, her family and their many friends. Mary enjoyed cooking and baking. She was known for her wonderful Christmas cookies and famous ice tea. The love of her life was spending time with her family and friends. Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Thomas Wood of Stevensville, MD; three loving children, Carolyn Hiteshew of Pasadena, MD, Lois McBee and her husband, Jerry of Stevensville, MD and Tom Wood and his wife, Gail of Stevensville, MD; 9 grand children, Douglas Hiteshew, Carrie DeBoy, Gerald Cleveland, Sherry Cleveland, Christina Youngren, James McBee, Valerie McBee, Patrick McBee and Dominic Binetti; 10 great-grand children, Josh Youngren, Carissa Hiteshew, Douglas Hiteshew, Christy and Christopher DeBoy, Nicholas McBee, Matthew McBee, Jacob McBee ,Abigail Binetti and Lilliana Binetti; a sister, Barbara Schoen of Severna Park. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Carroll Jr. and James Bowersox and a daughter, Helen Wells. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2010 4:00PM at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., 106 Shamrock Road, Chester, MD 21619 where a visitation will be from 2-4PM.
