Mary E. Lacy

Mary Elizabeth Lacy of Easton, MD, formerly of Silver Spring, MD, passed away at Easton Memorial Hospital on Sunday, October 19, 2014. Mary Elizabeth was born on August 15, 1931, and was raised in Cresaptown, MD. She attended and graduated from Alleghany High School and Frostburg State College with a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education/Administration. From 1955 to 1961, she taught elementary education in the territory of Alaska, not yet a state. In 1961, she relocated to Takoma Park, MD, and accepted the first of many teaching and administrative positions with Montgomery County Public Schools. She served as a teacher, resource teacher, principal, and in the area office. After a long and active career with the County, she retired from full-time employment. This was followed by an additional fifteen years of advisory and mentoring positions within the county working to train future school administrators. Mary Elizabeth will be missed by the many people she impacted throughout her career in education. She was one of three daughters born to the late Nellie Mae and John F. Kammauf and was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Lee Lacy for 56 years. Mary Elizabeth will be forever be remembered by her sisters, Doris Linaburg and Shirley Ayers; daughters, Beth Horner and Brenna Dutton; granddaughters, Lian Dutton-Mofford, Caitlin Dutton, and Kendall Horner Smith; and great-grandchildren Gavin, Gabriel, Londyn and Brantley; along with countless other friends, family, and colleagues whom were blessed to know her. Mary Elizabeth will be remembered for her unceasing devotion to her husband, family, the Catholic faith, her love of music, and her avid appreciation of both herons and lighthouses. Friends may call on Friday, October 24, 2014, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 200 S. Harrison St., Easton. A funeral mass celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 1210 S. Washington St., in Easton. A brief graveside service will be held on Monday, October 27, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD.
