Martin William Johnson

Martin (Marty) William Johnson, born on September 28, 1938, in Cresaptown, Maryland, passed away on March 21, 2025. He was the beloved son of Bob and Ruth Johnson and leaves behind his devoted wife of 62 years, Elaine Myers Johnson. He is also survived by his sister, Judith Johnson Ost. Marty is survived by his two daughters; Karen Atkins of Pensacola, Florida and Elizabeth Tinkler (Brian) of Berlin, Maryland; and was a proud grandfather to his grandchildren, Nick (Monica) Atkins, Elaine (Nicky) Levin, Andrew (Morgan) Atkins, Charlton Atkins, Samuel Tinkler, William Tinkler and Bennett Tinkler. Marty spent his formative years in Cresaptown and graduated from Allegany High School in 1957 before joining the Army, where he served six months of active duty and continued in the Reserves. He earned an AA degree from Potomac State College, then transferred to Fairmont State University, where he obtained a BS in Biology. Later, he received a master's degree from Frostburg University and completed further graduate work at the University of Maryland. Marty dedicated 32 years of his life to teaching biology and chemistry in Prince George's County, Maryland, passionately inspiring high school students. He believed that teaching was both an art and a calling. After his teaching career, he built a successful business as a financial advisor for 25 years with Anchor Financial, helping fellow educators achieve financial freedom. A cherished member of his community, Marty was known for his kindness and dedication, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion. He was deeply committed to his faith, attending Bowie Christian and Missionary Church, where he served as an elder for many years. He also contributed to the board of the Christian Bookshop in Annapolis, Maryland. After retirement, Marty and Elaine moved to Easton Club East, forging lasting friendships in their community and church. They led numerous Bible studies in their home, always eager to share the gospel and their love for the Lord. Marty's greatest joy was fishing, and he cherished the time spent on the streams of western Maryland, always in pursuit of "the big one," though many dinner conversations were filled with tales of "the one that got away." A memorial service will be held in his honor, with a visitation on Saturday, March 29th, at 10 AM, followed by the funeral at 11 AM. Both events will take place at The First Baptist Church, 115 Idlewild Ave., Easton, MD 21601. A Celebration of Life will follow directly after the service at Bailey Chase Auditorium, where lunch will be served. All are welcome to join in celebrating the life of a remarkable man.
