Martha B. Marvel

Martha B. Marvel of Easton, MD died on Sunday, October 17, 2004 at Memorial Hospital at Easton. She was 87. Born June 10, 1917 in Denton, MD, she was the sixth child of a large family of the late Wilbert and Hulda Andrews Butler of Tuckahoe Neck, Denton. After graduating from Caroline County High School in 1935, she attended a beautician school in Wilmington, DE. Upon graduation, she worked briefly as a beautician in Wilmington. On September 17, 1939, she married L. Everett Marvel and they made their home in Easton, MD. They operated Marvels grocery store at 615 Goldsborough St. in Easton until Everett accepted employment with the U.S. Postal Service at the Easton Post Office. Martha worked as a W.T. Rawleigh home product sales representative for twelve years throughout Caroline County. Mrs. Marvel, or Mom-Mom as she was affectionately known, enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved growing flowers, was a member of several ballroom dance clubs of the Eastern Shore, and was an avid baseball fan, especially of the Baltimore Orioles. In addition to her husband of sixty-five years, Mrs. Marvel is survived by three children, Donald Marvel and his wife, Carol of Easton, Robert Marvel and his wife, Miriam of Seattle, WA and Wanda Marvel and her husband, James Ransom of Frederick, MD; seven sisters, Margaret Reed, Louise Schmotzer and her husband, Bill and Doris Sharp and her husband Gibson, all of Denton, Mary Sewell of Easton, Charlotte Morris of Glen Allen, VA, Barbara Tortello of Cambridge, MD, and Ruth Hearn her husband, Ray of Claymont, DE; three brothers, Wilbert (Buddy) Butler and his wife, Catherine of Roanoke, VA, Allen Butler and Cornelius Butler, both of Denton; five grandchildren, Laurie Wade, Chris Marvel, Bridget Marvel, Eric Ranson and Glen Ransom; seven great grandchildren, Courtnie, Caroline, Carlie and Cecily Marvel and Matthew, Emma and Andrew Wade. A sister, Addie Roth, and two brothers, George Butler and Freddie Butler are deceased. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2004 at 11 AM at First Baptist Church, Easton, MD. Private burial services will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Easton, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, 115 Idlewild Ave., Easton, MD 21601.
