Marjorie Chaney Lyons

Marjorie Chaney Lyons (Marge) passed away in the early morning of August 24,2026 at Heartfield’s Assisted Living in Easton,MD. It had been her home for eleven years. She was born in Waco,Texas on October 25, 1925.Marjorie was the daughter of the late Professor J.G. Chaney and Grace Hatter Chaney. Later, Marge moved to Bryan, Texas and was there for most of her schooling. In her senior year, her family moved to Maine and later Massachusetts. She was very popular because they loved her Texas accent! Marjorie’s father became a professor at the Naval Academy. At that time, Marge went to the University of Maryland and majored in Home Economics. There she met the love of her life, LeRoy Lyons. They married on July 7, 1946 and settled in Easton, MD. They raised two daughters, Chris and Dianne. Marjorie was an active volunteer with the Easton hospital auxiliary. She was often a room mother in her girl’s classrooms. Exercising was something Marjorie enjoyed doing. Early on, it was Jack LaLanne on tv and later it was aerobics and yoga at the Easton YMCA. Marjorie was a very stylish dresser and a good cook. She was also a good seamstress and decorator. After the girls were older, Marjorie learned to play golf. She enjoyed playing with the woman’s golf group at the Talbot County Country Club. Marjorie and Roy would go to Florida in the winter and play golf with Roy’s brother Ken and his girlfriend Janet. Every summer they would go to Ocean City and spend a week with family. Even though Marge was born in Texas, she came to love the Eastern Shore. Marge and Roy built a house on the water in Arcadia Shores in Easton. They both enjoyed crabbing and fishing there. One year on Marge’s birthday (October 25) she caught a big rockfish and was so excited. Many holiday dinners and picnics were held there. Roy died in 2014. Marge was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings : Monette Bannerman, Jerry Chaney and Jeannie Chaney. She is survived by two daughters, Chris Roberts (George) and Dianne Shaw (David). Marge has five grandchildren that she loved. They are: Matt Roberts(Debbie), Phil Roberts(Kim), Tim Roberts (Sara), Ryan Shaw (Jenn) and Kristen Deitchman (Andy). She also has ten great grandchildren that she enjoyed so much. They are: Alexander Scott, Sofia Roberts, Anna Roberts, Joey Roberts, Addie Roberts, Gaby Shaw, Maddie Shaw, Ike Deitchman, Olivia Deitchman and Eliza Deitchman. Marge also has many special nieces and nephews. We want to thank my mother’s wonderful caregivers at Heartfields. Also, we are most appreciative of all the help from Talbot Hospice. Everyone was so kind. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday August 29th at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home 200 S. Harrison Street Easton, MD. The visitation will be from 1-2pm and the service at 2pm. .
