Marilyn Bauman Decker

Marilyn Bauman Decker of Easton died peacefully early Sunday morning, January 2, 2011 at The Pines in Easton. Born September 2, 1934 in Westwood, NJ, she was the daughter of Herbert and Dorothy Bauman. An animal lover, Marilyn grew up raising championship collies. Marilyn went to Mary Washington College, and then transferred to West Virginia University, where she met her future husband, Philip. After graduation, she and Philip were married in 1956. Marilyn taught pre-school, was a housewife and, for the last sixteen years, a musician. She played the keyboard at all of the local nursing homes and was also the organist for the First Church of Christ Scientist in Easton. Marilyn took great satisfaction in playing for the residents of the nursing homes. She especially loved everyone at The Pines, where she resided for the last two years of her life. She also rented out sailboats in Oxford, MD. Marilyn loved her only grandson, Philip, very much. She devoted much of her time to having fun with him, taking him to many an Easter egg hunt, walking in the woods, swimming at the Windy Hill beach, and taking him to plays and movies. She loved to take him for rides in her Chrysler Le Baron convertible with the top down, taking her dogs Jazz and Liza along. Marilyn loved life. One of her favorite things to do was walk in the woods or on the beach with her dogs, Jazz and Liza. Marilyn loved to dance and go to blues concerts around the country. She especially liked the festival held in New Orleans. She enjoyed exploring the Pacific Northwest while visiting her daughter, Holly. Marilyn loved sailing and participated in many races on the Bay on her 44-foot sloop, Skylark, with her son Brad and her crew. She also sang for 15 years with the Choral Arts Society and traveled to Europe numerous times to sing in cathedrals. She was a devoted member of the Haddonfield, NJ Christian Science Church. When the family moved to Easton, she became a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, where she was the organist. She is survived by her daughter, Holly and Holly’s cat, Tilly, of Portland, OR; her son, Brad of Trappe and his girlfriend, Annie, of Easton; her grandson, Philip Teach and his mother, Rica; her niece, Linda Andrews and her husband, Frank; her nephew, David Klemm , his wife, Cindy and their daughter, Elizabeth, of NJ; her brothers in-law, Nick Decker, and his wife, Anne of PA and Geary Decker of Red Bank, NJ; and many loving nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Sheila and her husband, Jack, of Strafford, PA, and their children: Mark, Irene, Greg, Mike, Kim, Thad and Cameron, who live all around the country. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Philip, and her sister, Carol Klemm. Marilyn had many good friends and will be greatly missed by her family, friends and dogs. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 15 at the First Church of Christ Scientist in Easton, MD.
