Marie Gardner Patchett

Marie Gardner Patchett of Queenstown, MD passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Easton Memorial Hospital, Easton, MD. She was 75. Born September 15, 1934 in Stevensville, MD, she was the daughter of the late Frank Thomas and Annetta Roe Gardner. She was raised on Kent Island and graduated from Stevensville High School, Class of 1952 where she was Class President and played basketball and softball. She married Rowland S. “Happy” Patchett, Sr. on September 20, 1952 at the Wye Carmichael Church. They made their home in Queenstown, MD. Mr. Patchett died in 1996. Her career was raising her family and managing local restaurants where she retired in 1988. She was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Queenstown Volunteer Fire Dept.; where she was instrumental in creating the first all women ambulance crew. She was an avid reader and loved traveling. She crossed the United State three times visiting most of the National Parks, particularly loving Indian artifacts. Her main love was spending time with her grandchildren and also her Chihuahua “Baby”. Mrs. Patchett is survived by four daughters, Diana Tarrant and her husband, Stuart, Joy Lynn Patchett and Patricia “Patti” Patchett, all of Queenstown, MD and Sandra “Sandy” Kendall of Centreville, MD; a son, Rowland S. “Sam” Patchett, Jr. and his wife, Melissa of Preston, MD; a sister, Barbara Gardner Nichols and her husband, Larry of Preston, MD; six grandchildren, Aubrey Tarrant Kaufman and her husband, Cory, Joshua Thomas Kendall, Justin Robert Kendall, Megan Marie Patchett, USAF, Thomas “Austin” Patchett and Avery Stuart Tarrant and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Thomas Gardner, Jr., U.S. Army. Friends may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P. A., Chester, MD on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 from 7 – 9 PM. Funeral services will be held at Wye of Carmichael United Methodist Church, Carmichael, MD on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 11:00 AM where friends may call from 10 – 11.
