Malcolm Arthur Carmine

Malcolm Arthur “Mac” Carmine died on the Sabbath, December 25, 2005, very peacefully and in his sleep at Genesis Eldercare-The Pines, Easton. He was 92. Born September 29, 1913 on Newton Road near Preston, he was the son of the late Charles Haddaway, Carmine Sr. and Clara Ella Collison Carmine. He attended school in Choptank and Preston. At age 10 he began working for Levi and Mattie Voshell on Hunting Creek Farm, where his grandparents had lived in the 1880’s. His oldest son was born on the farm, making four generations of his family to have lived there. During his working years, he had various jobs in Caroline and Talbot Counties. In 1988 he went to work for Nagel Farm Services, where he remained until retiring at the age of 87. On March 30, 1938 he married the former Barbara Mae Ewing who died May 11, 1951. On February 25, 1953 he married the former Laura Frances Fluharty who died September 12, 1995. He was an active member of the Easton Church of God where he served as usher and door keeper. His greatest joy came from helping his family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his family on special occasions and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Mr. Carmine is survived by two sons, Charles Milton Carmine and his wife Evelyn of Bethlehem, and Malcolm Lee Carmine of Trappe; two daughters, Mildred Ann Hollingsworth and her husband Jay of Ridgely, and Phyllis Mae Carroll and her husband J.C. of Jackson, GA; three grandsons, Jerry Arthur Carmine and his wife Mindy of Hurlock, William Lee Carmine of Cambridge, and Brandon Clay Hollingsworth of Ridgely; two granddaughters, Debra Lynn Yater and her husband Joe of Marydel, and Donna Lynn Carpenter and her husband David of Trappe; nine great-grandchildren, Jerry Arthur Carmine II, Shawn Michael Carmine, Ethan Lecompte Carmine, Joseph Zachary Yater, Kelsey Lynn Yater, Phillip Kyle Brooks, David McClain Carpenter, Rachel Kelley Carpenter, and Kristina Spring Hollingsworth; two step-grandsons, Scott and Shawn Carroll; four step-great-grandchildren; and forty-six nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Doris Mae Carmine and Barbara Ellen Carmine; two sisters, Clara Viola Carmine, and Helen Louise Eskridge; two brothers, Charles Haddaway Carmine, Jr. and William Oliver Carmine; a son-in-law, Larry Joe Smith; a former daughter-in-law, Donna Jean Todd Carmine; a granddaughter-in-law, Deborah Sue Willey Carmine; and his father-in laws and mother-in-laws, Milton Greenley Ewing, Sr. and Dorothy Anna Dulin Ewing, and George William Fluharty, Sr. and Florence Trax Fluharty. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2005 at 11:00 am at the Easton Church of God, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Choptank Cemetery, Choptank, MD. David Nagel, Chip Nagel, Chad J. Nagel, Joe Yater, Jerry Carmine, Billy Carmine, and David Carpenter will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon Dulin and J. C. Carroll. Memorial donations may be made to the Cordova Volunteer Fireman’s Association, PO Box 102, Cordova, MD 21625.
