Lorenzo Thomas DiPietro

Lorenzo Thomas DiPietro of Stevensville, MD, and Port St. Lucie, FL, died Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Hospice of the Chesapeake in Pasadena, MD surrounded by family. He was 89. Born Lorenzo (Larry) Thomas DiPietro on June 3, 1934, in Baltimore, MD, he was the youngest son of the late Vincent and Marianna DiPietro. Lorenzo grew up in Baltimore and graduated from Calvert Hall High School. Larry spent a short time in the US Army. Upon discharge from the army, he started work at the Baltimore Transit Company driving street cars and buses. He took great pride in being a streetcar conductor driving a car along the famous Baltimore # 8 line that went from Towson to Catonsville. It was during this time that he married Marie Barbara Hevey in 1959. They moved to Reisterstown where they raised their family. He continued working for the Baltimore Transit Company which later became Mass Transit Administration as a supervisor then Manager in Human Resources. After retirement, Larry and Marie moved to Kent Island and spent their winters in Port St. Lucie. Larry loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed boating, crabbing, gardening, and repairing all things in his home and his children’s homes. He enjoyed large family gatherings and teaching his family how to make delicious Italian cookies. Mr. DiPietro is survived by his loving daughters, Marianna Wentz (Jeffrey) of Stevensville, MD, and Theresa Steinhice of Stevensville, MD; sons, Lawrence DiPietro (Cynthia) of Annapolis, MD, Philip DiPietro (Elizabeth) of Severna Park, MD, and Thomas DiPietro (Jennifer) of Millersville, MD; sixteen grandchildren, Jeffrey Wentz (Teresa), Jennafer Cuga (Alex), Eric Wentz (Katie), Alexander Wentz, Trevor Wentz, Michael Steinhice (Elyse), Amanda Goldfeder (Brian), Tyler Steinhice (Emily), Alison Steinhice, Matthew DiPietro, Andrew DiPietro, Caroline DiPietro, Anna Vaughan (Brennan), Joseph DiPietro, Nicholas DiPietro, and Maggie DiPietro; three great grandchildren, Sadie Steinhice, Harper Goldfeder, and Holly Goldfeder. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Marie of over 58 years, his sister, Concetta Leatherman (Robert), his brothers, Frank DiPietro (Betty), Salvatore DiPietro, and Joseph DiPietro. A visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Chester, MD. A Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday November 22, 2023, at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Chester, MD. Burial will be private in Crownsville Veterans Cemetery.
