Lisa Palmatary Schrader

It is with great sadness and much love that the family of Lisa Palmatary Schrader of Goldsboro, MD, announces her passing on December 23, 2022, at the age of 61. Lisa passed away at home surrounded by family after a courageous, hard-fought, two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born August 30, 1961, in Easton, MD, to Charlie and Frances Callahan of Queenstown, MD. Lisa followed in the footsteps of her mother and several family members and became a nurse. As a nurse, she worked in the hospital setting, long-term care, and primary care office until she found her true calling of school health nursing. Lisa worked for the Queen Anne’s County Board of Education from 1996 – 2021. Most of her 25 years as a school nurse was spent at Sudlersville Middle School where she loving referred to the students as “her kids.” One of the highlights of Lisa’s career was in 2012 when she saved a young student's life and received the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) Directors Award for Excellence in Emergency Medical Services and was also honored by being named the Red Cross Woman of the Year. Lisa often received cards and messages of love and support from prior students indicating the positive influence she had on their lives. Lisa enjoyed country living, cooking, traveling, and going to the beach. After receiving her diagnosis of cancer, Lisa was determined not to let her illness interfere with her living her best life. She traveled with family and friends, and spent many weekends at the beach with her sister, Lori (Bob), and great niece Kaylee. To know Lisa was to love her; she would frequently greet family and friends with a big smile and “Hello, Sunshine.” Her bright light and big heart left us too soon, but she will be remembered for her warmth, love, and generosity. Along with her parents, Lisa is preceded in death by her first love, best friend, and husband of 30 years Jack Palmatary, and her first born son, Louis Jonathan Palmatary, III. She is survived by her husband of nine years, Kenneth Pierce Schrader of Goldsboro MD; her children, Amy Williams (Franklin) of Barclay, MD, Ashley Collier (Andy) of Denton, MD, and Jonathan Palmatary of Ingleside, MD; her stepdaughters, Trish Boone (Steve) of Church Hill, MD, and Kenzie Schrader (Garrett) of Chestertown, MD; and her grandchildren, Emmy, Logan, Briley and Halley of Barclay, MD, Bradley, Brendon, Brice, Emma and Colin of Church Hill, MD, and Peyton of Chestertown, MD. Lisa also leaves behind her sisters and several nieces and nephews, Linda Benton (Curtis) of Centreville, MD and her son Brian, Marty (Optie) Dawkins of Centreville, MD and her children Jenna, Calley and Kristin and Lori Collier (Bob) of Queenstown, MD and their girls Leslie and Kim; and many great nieces and nephews. Lastly, Lisa leaves her faithful dog, Colt, who was always by her side right up to the time of her last breath. "A limb has fallen from the family tree but please grieve not for me; remember the good times, the laughter, my song, the good life I lived while I was STRONG." The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 29, 2022, from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. and 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 408 S Liberty St., Centreville, MD. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 30, 2022, at 11 a.m, where friends may visit at 10 a.m. Interment will be private for family at the Sudlersville Cemetery in Sudlersville, MD, following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Compass Hospice, 255 Comet Drive, Centreville, MD 21617, or suggests performing an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for someone less fortunate.
