Linwood Raimond Stafford

Linwood “Sonny” Raimond Stafford of Chestertown, MD, died on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Chester River Hospital Center in Chestertown, MD. He was 66. Sonny was born November 19, 1946, in Chestertown, MD, the son of the late Linwood Wilson Stafford and Lillian “Faulkner” Stafford. Mr. Stafford worked on farms as a young boy in and around the area before he was drafted in the U.S. Army. He served in the Color Guard at Presidio in Monterey, CA. He also served at Aberdeen Proving Ground. After an honorable discharge, he went to work for the Department Core of Engineers before working with Delmarva Power, where he retired in 2003. While working with Delmarva Power, he also worked as a machinery technician second class for the Coast Guard Reserves. In March of 1986, he married his wife Sharon Stafford. He separated from the Coast Guard in 1989. Sonny was a member of the Betterton American Legion and gardening was his passion, but he also enjoyed the beach at the Outer Banks, watching Nascar, drag racing, football, and hunting with all of his “buddies.” In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Linwood W. “Sonny Buck” Stafford and sister, Delores Hurd. He is survived by his wife, Sharon M. Stafford of Chestertown, MD; daughter, Denise M. Stafford of Sudlersville, MD; daughter-in-law, Michelle Stafford of Kent Island, MD; two sisters, Maryester Hampton (“BoBo”) of Queenstown, MD, Margaret Walls (JB) of Chestertown, MD; five grandchildren, Tiffany, Joshua and Brian Hunter, and Amanda and Leah Stafford; four great grandchildren, Will, Jessica, Trent and Kerstin, two-sister-in-laws, Penny Usilton (Johnny Thompson) of Rock Hall, MD, Kim King (Mike) of Chesapeake Beach, MD; and nieces and nephews, Michael, Eddie and David Hurd, Cindy and Steve Smith and Pam Hickman, Robin Dulin, Artie, and Charlie Willis, Nick and Ivy Usilton, Russ Jacquette, and Samantha King. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. 130 Speer Rd, Chestertown, MD.
