Linda Everett Green

Finding her wings and taking flight, Linda Everett Green of Snow Hill, MD passed away on June12, 2026 surrounded by family at the age of 83. Devoted to song and selflessness, she lived a life of caring for family, community, and the natural world. A lifelong resident of the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Linda was born in Ridgely on January 19th,1943. She was raised on the family farms and “in town” in Sudlersville where she attended school, performing in the glee club, playing the clarinet, and cheerleading during her high school years. She also sang in the Calvary-Asbury Methodist church choir, where her father played the organ. She participated in 4H and enjoyed summers at Camp Pecometh. After graduating from high school in 1961, Linda attended Easton Memorial Hospital’s School of Nursing (soon after renamed the MacQueen Gibbs Willis School of Nursing) where she found her professional calling. She worked as a nurse at Easton Memorial Hospital, a school nurse at Kent School in Chestertown, and for over thirty years as a public health nurse for Somerset and Worcester counties. Linda assisted countless members of the community through Prevention Department programs including diabetes education and smoking cessation. Linda married Dr. John S. Green III in 1965 and became stepmother to his three children, Dorsey, Judy, and Johnny. Soon after, Linda and Jack moved to the Chestertown area where they raised a family and a menagerie of pets beside the Chester River. Their children, Barclay and Melanie, were encouraged to appreciate books, music, and movies, as well as to muck around in the woods and marsh and to handle themselves in and on the water. A member of the congregation of Christ United Methodist Church in Chestertown, Linda sang in the choir, often worked with children in the Sunday school, and contributed her turkey tetrazzini to covered-dish suppers. While her children were young, she ran a small childcare group and helped to organize and host a summer preschool. She also worked as the kindergarten resource teacher at Kent School. While engaged in these many activities, Linda began taking classes at Washington College where she especially enjoyed classes in literature, philosophy, and music. She graduated with a B.A. in 1983. Furthering her education at Salisbury State University, she graduated in 1992 with a Master of Education degree. She also found the time to recreate her mother-in-law’s family eggnog recipe each holiday season and to mix mean martinis for family and friends—sometimes to their regret. Inheriting a talent for baking from her mother, Linda became well-known for providing baked goods for her family of co-workers and neighbors, particularly her tasty muffins. Her chocolate crinkles, Russian tea cookies, and snickerdoodles were Christmas treats loved by all, especially in later years by her grandchildren. An early practitioner of recycling and composting, Linda cared deeply for the environment, planting many trees and bushes at the family homes. She and Jack tended to hundreds of hummingbirds over the years, carefully noting on the calendar the first and last sightings of their little friends each season. Linda took long walks on the beaches of the Chester River and later in her neighborhood in Snow Hill, often picking up debris as she strolled. She enjoyed boating on the Chester—where she watched for kingfishers and ospreys —and delighted in overnights near Cacaway Island in Langford Creek. She adored family vacations to New England, especially the White Mountains of New Hampshire and her beloved Maine, as well as camping trips to Greenbrier State Park in the mountains of Maryland. She is survived by her son Barclay Green and wife Parmita of Cincinnati, OH and their children Mira and Anju; daughter Melanie Whisner and husband Rodney of Snow Hill, MD and their children Ian and Reed; niece Amanda Webb and fiancé Donald of Sudlersville, MD; nephew Adam Webb and his wife Rachel of Church Hill, MD and their children Alivia and Abby; stepdaughter Dorsey Green of Seattle, WA and her children Ethan and Brendan; and stepdaughter Judy Scribner of Naples, FL and her daughter Kristin. Linda also had six great grandchildren, Mason, Milo, Desmond, Callen, Avery, Dazen, and Kira. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, her parents Linwood and Helen Everett, sister Lainey Webb, and stepson John Green IV. Linda will receive a cremation and green burial, and the family will hold a small graveside ceremony in her memory at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Easton, MD. A Celebration of Life will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, her family asks for contributions to Coastal Hospice, The Audubon Society, or The Nature Conservancy. Trees planted in her honor would also be appreciated.
