Linda Alice Callahan

Linda Alice Callahan, 78, of Easton, MD, passed from this world on May 28, 2018. She died peacefully at home with her immediate family close by and holding her beloved dog, Hensley, next to her side. She was born in Elizabeth, NJ, on June 27, 1939, to Horace Stanland and Marie Micillo. She grew up in her father’s hometown, Wilmington, NC, where she loved the beach and graduated from New Hanover High School, where she was described in the senior yearbook as “always as neat as a pin.” She married Page Callahan of Easton on Nov. 25, 1974. She is survived by her loving husband, Page; her daughter, Kathleen M. Johnson of Charlotte, NC; her three sisters -- Marcia Dunn of Myrtle Beach, SC, Susan West of Newton, NC, and Gayle Metts of Newberry, SC; her stepdaughter Susan Aistrup of Leawood, KS; her stepson Paul Callahan of Oxford, MD; her stepdaughter Wendy Roland of Oceanside, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Linda worked as a librarian in Goldsboro, NC, and Easton, MD, and as an administrative assistant for respected insurance and brokerage firms in Easton. She remembered people in Maryland engaging her to speak soon after moving to the Eastern Shore to hear her southern accent, something she retained until death. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Linda owned and operated the Merle Norman Cosmetics store in Talbot Town, one of the few female-owned small businesses of the time. She moved with her husband to Harrisonburg, VA, in the 1990s and called her life there in a beautiful home they designed and built on a hillside as “the best 10 years of my life.” She and her husband retired to Easton in 2000. A voracious reader, Linda devoured books, especially those set in England, a country she was able to visit numerous times and where she made close friends. She also loved to dance -- particularly to Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock & Roll”! She cared deeply for her daughter, whom she was close to, and all her friends, as well as everyone she met while serving as a long-time Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary volunteer, and all the special dogs in her life. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at 11AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church 7215 Ocean Gateway, Easton, MD 21601.
